I just completed my MBA from the University of Alberta. The only thing seperating me from convocation is this trip to China (May 4-21). What a great way to finish on a high note. I can't wait! On the menu: Beijing (Great Wall of China, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Olympic Stadium, etc) and Shanghai (World Expo 2010, French Quarters, etc) and of course some lectures and visits to corporate sites (Royal Bank of Canada, Alberta office in Beijing, etc.) You can follow my adventure right here! Enjoy!

What can I say about the Wall that hasn't been said yet? It is phenomenal and it now ranks amongst the top 3 travelling experience of my life (with the Taj and Prague). I don't have time to write much right now because we are leaving for Shanghai in less than 7 hours, I'm not packed and I need to sleep a little. But check the pictures!... read more

I wish I had the ability to read to Chinese. That has to be my next goal in life. If I could read Chinese I could tell you a lot more about the Chinese National School of Administration. But now I am going to have to refer to hearsay. Our Prof. says that CNSA is THE school for top government officials in China. This is where Governors of provinces and top federal government guys get their education. And since China is only as good as its government... I took a walk across campus yesterday to take some pictures. Have a look! Yesterday we had two corporate visits. First, we had three presentations by the President of Royal Bank - China and two of his top executive. I will save you from the details. But it was ... read more

First full day in Beijing was interesting. Getting to know my classmates, meeting an old friend, visiting a historic site, learning about the Alberta/China partnership, surviving the walk to a local cafe filled the menu of my day. First, after getting up early and figuring out the time difference between China and Edmonton, I had my first typical Beijing breakfast (fried peanuts, noodles, and some kind of veggie tofu dish. The best news of the day was that dumplings are served at each meal and they are delicious. Black tea with sugar rounded up what was a pretty decent breakfast. Then we hopped on the bus for a hour trip to the Canadian Embassy where an old friend (Da Li) was presenting to our group on his experience as a Canadian who started his business in ... read more

We finally arrived in Beijing after being delayed in Edmonton for "de-icing" (was it really MAY 4th?), a short stop over in Vancouver, a long delay in Beijing because the luggage of one of my classmate did not arrive on the same flight, and a one hour bus ride to CNSA (China National School of Administration). Can't tell you how glad I was to jump in the shower and change. Then we had dinner and went out for a walk to the nearest mall (kind of crazy). I went to bed at 9:30 local time and here I am at 5:00 unable to sleep anymore writting my first blog entry. Today we are doing a trip to the Canadian Embassy and we are visiting the Summer Palace in the afternoon. I will post pictures later on. ... read more
