I am doing a trip in south america for several month and would like to write a blog about it.

South America June 30th 2010

Chimbote I took the bus of the company LINEA from Trujillo to Chimbote. I just got a place in the 7am bus, with which I missed my connecting bus to Huaraz. It costed 7 Soles. I wanted to take the bus from Yungay Express which leads over the cañon del Pato, but that one leaves every day at 8:30am from Chimbote and costs 25 Soles. I decided to take the bus on the next day and to stay one night in Chimbote. I took a taxi from the terminal to the city center, which is pretty far. I paid 6 Soles. The first time, that I didnt had to lower the price, because I think it was fair. Normally they asked for more and in the end I give them less. Yesterday evening I printed ... read more

South America » Peru » Piura » Máncora June 21st 2010

Crossing the border from Ecuador to Peru and arriving to Máncora Finally on Monday (21.06.2010) I managed to leave Salinas, and I took the bus in the evening at 8:30pm, because another bus broke down and was replaced by this one, direct to Guayaquil with the bus company CICA (or CLP). After two hours of watching a very, very bloody movie, I arrived in Guayaquil at 11pm. I went immediately to get the busticket for the 23:30 bus to Máncora (company CIFA) and purchased one ticket for 12,5 US$. I bought a sandwich, had a coke, bought some water, used the toilet and went to the bus, which was a little bit late, so I had time, to buy some sweets and a newspaper to spend my last few US$. When you buy the bus ... read more

South America April 2nd 2010

Esmeraldas I spent the Friday with Daniel in the historic city center, watching the parade for easter. We also went up to the Panecillo and in the rain down. We had to hurry to get the bus to Esmeraldas. We all slept in the bus, but we arrived at 1am in the night to Esmeraldas, so I was damn tired. We took a taxi from the terminal, which got stopped by the police, because it went to fast on a road with these tiny stones (Schotterstrasse). The neighborhood looks okay but after we entered a aluminium door (aus Wellblech), I started to have my doubts. The house was really, really simple. Annabells and Daniels mom lives upstairs, in 2 room flat with a living kitchen and a tiny bathroom. Downstairs lives the brother of Annabells ... read more

South America » Colombia » Santa Marta February 6th 2010

Arriving to Santa Marta Just arrived the hostal owner was telling me that tomorrow a lost city trip would leave and if I want to join. I said, I want to shower first :) I took a shower and felt better. Then went for a short walk in the city. I think it is a pretty beautiful town. I had some food in the restaurant on the opposite site of the hostal and then talked again to the owner about the trip and decided to go. So we went together to the bank to get the money (500 colombian pesos). Next morning I had a short breakfast and then was ready for the tour. The lost city trip I met Mauricio, our guide, who was the same guy, i contacted per email before to get ... read more

South America » Venezuela » Zulian » Maracaibo January 29th 2010

Maracaibo The city of differences: old and new, beach and city, ocean and lake, industry and indians, poor and rich. Already finding a taxi at the bus station was not easy. Even harder to find a hotel. The one recommended in my guide did not exist anymore, so the taxi driver recommend me one, that looked dubious from outside but turned to be quite okay from the inside. Only the airconditioner was really noisy, so I turned it off at night :( I arrived Saturday morning, 29th of January 2010, and after getting some sleep I met Eva and Miguel for a ride with the Tranvia. It was fun, although very difficult to understand the guide. Miguel laughed a lot :) In the evening we went for Patacones - delicious. And we met Miguels cousin ... read more

South America » Venezuela » Andean » Mérida January 20th 2010

Mérida I arrived in Mérida in the morning of the 20th of January 2010. Beside sleeping I was talking to a guy, named Juan, from Mérida, who offered me to stay in his apartment. I thought "why not" and so we went in the car of his aunt to his apartment. The apartment was big and I got my own room. He started to clean a little bit and buy some food, because he invited a friend and his brother for that night for dinner. So he cooked Pasta with pig in tomato sauce. Delicious! His friend Reynaldo and his brother were really nice. We spent a nice evening. The next two days went by making party at night, sleeping very long and I visited a few things on my own on the day, like ... read more
