Hello! Hi Nikki, You Dad sent me the link to your travel blog and I've enjoyed reading it. Bravo Gril! What a terrific experience you're having! Reading your wonderful stories is just grand. Here's to your continuing "Bon Voyage!" Aunt Anne
Lucky, Lucky You! I know you have probably heard this from your Dad, but...IF THIS WAS THE NAVY...it would have been a lot worse! Glad you're not scrubbing the toilets or anything. Finish this sentence: The worse day on dock time is better than...
Frustration One of the worst feelings is when you have absolutely no control over your fate! How frustrating this ferry fiasco must have been for you. Looking forward to your next blog to find out your fate!
Saw the sea! You comment about nothing but ocean for 7 days reminds me of an old song with lyrics that say "I joined the Navy to see the world, but what did I see?...I saw the sea!..." So true! Love ya, Daddy
Rome Rocks! Piazza Navona is my fav.
When I was a kid we lived near the Spanish steps. Grandpa Frank used to take me down there and get pistacio ice crea--I remember it like it was yesterday... Love ya, Daddy
Fa Napula! Yeah, Naples is dirty. And what's really amazing is that its been cleaned up SIGNIFICANTLY from when I first went there as a kid. When I lived in Rome ('67-'69) Dad would take us to Naples every once and a while to use the Navy Exchange. I remember pulling in and smelling the place--the kind of thing that sticks with a kid's memeories. Then when I went back on MONTPELLIER it was better but still pretty bad. Then I went back last year and I really noticed the difference (much better). Grandpa Frank would tell a story about his dad (great grandpa Rocco) how when he was mad at someone he would swear at them and say "fa Napula!" Not sure if I'm spelling that right, but it means "go to Naples", and was a euphimism for "go to hell" (but worse!).
Love ya kiddo!
Dad
Nikki, this sounds awesome! I just moved to the North End of Boston, "Little Italy." You will definitely have to come sometime and see if it reminds you of the homeland! The streets are certainly narrow enough, the food is amazing, the cafes are always crowded and there is a festival every weekend. It's fun! I love your photog skillz too :) Love you!
ahhh u went clubbin at 3 am,,,hell yeah,,ha and of course you would eat the full squid head,,haha spain sounds like it was so fun nikki! im jealous!! miss you!
SOunds like... Good food, siestas (riposos in IT), more food, partying til dawn...sounds like the Med in summer that I remember! Nice blog. From your writing it seems you are getting the full experience, not just the clubs. Can't wait to hear from IT!

awesomeness When reading your travel journal, I felt this sheet of envy overcome me entirely! I am so jealous, it sounds like a blast and you haven't even really gotten started yet! I will definitely be reading and living vicariously through you! Have fun, be safe, stay awesome and make sure you live it up for me and everyone else who is not having such an adventure! Love you!
Great Entry! Nikki--great entry, so clear and well-written, I feel like I was there. Wait, I HAVE been there. Went to a converted Andalusian ranch in Jerez when I was in town for a class a few years ago ... we had a beautiful dinner int he converted stables and ... yes, drank lots of sangria. They still had some beautiful horses, which they brought out for us to see. No flamenco that night, though. sounds like a great time, and you are learning so much and experiencing the world. I'm not sure, though, who is having more fun in that picture, you or the musician with his arm around our beautiful daughter! Will send the blog link to all interested parties. Love you--Mom
