Europe » Ireland » County Kerry » Killarney March 23rd 2015

This past weekend I traveled to Killarney and toured the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. The town of Killarney itself is a lovely town. The Ring of Kerry lived up to everything that people make it out to be. It is a beautiful landscape and will make people sit in awe at points. The big surprise of the trip was the Dingle Peninsula. It was the most beautiful place I have seen in Ireland. It is by far my favorite place and I could not begin to describe my thoughts on the peninsula. For anyone who is traveling to Ireland, I cannot recommend any place more highly. It is in my personal opinion that the Dingle Peninsula was quite a bit better than the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Kerry left me speechless. ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Clare » Cliffs of Moher March 14th 2015

Yesterday I went to the amazing Cliffs of Moher. They were everything that people make them out to be. I couldn't have asked for a better day either, as the skies were clear and the view seemed endless. The Cliffs are 700ft tall and there is nothing keeping you from walking over the edge. The beauty and magnitude is remarkable and the Cliffs are definitely one of my favorite places. I used a tour company to get to the Cliffs and we also made a short stop in Limerick and drove all throughout the Burren. The Burren is an area of rock that covers some 250 square kilometers. It is a place of great beauty in County Clare and shows the rugged terrain of Ireland. Your stereotypical images of the Irish countryside become a reality in ... read more

Europe » Poland » Lesser Poland » Auschwitz March 6th 2015

Here are the pictures that I took on my visit to Auschwitz. While there, it was a struggle to try and judge what is and what isn't photo appropriate. There are places where pictures are forbidden and any decent human being would respect that wish. These pictures cannot even begin to do justice to what actually happened there and the emotions a person will feel walking those hallowed grounds.... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Waterford » Waterford February 28th 2015

My latest slew of blog post have been sharing with everyone my recent travels and all the magnificent places I got to see. As I wrote all those posts and thought about everything I did, I started to question the reason behind traveling. If all we do is travel to "see" things and places are we really gaining anything or are we just able to check another thing off out list. I would agree that there are some places that we simply to travel to, to see and marvel at the beauty. Many of these places exist in Ireland's beautiful countryside, but even places of nature and places like the Eiffel Tower can teach us something. As I think back about last week, I realize just how much I learned, especially from Normandy and Auschwitz. In ... read more

Europe » Poland » Lesser Poland » Kraków February 27th 2015

My final weekend of my travels during my midterm break was to Krakow Poland. This served as a good home base to get out to Auschwitz and it is a beautiful city. Poland has long been a very religious place, especially Catholic, and walking through Krakow it is evident. Everywhere I looked there was a church. This is all helped by the fact that Pope John Paul II was Polish and attended school in Krakow and would later become its Archbishop. On my first real day in Krakow, I took a free walking tour of the Old City and our guide told us that 95% of Poles consider themselves Catholic and about 60% attend church regularly. By far the largest percentages in Europe. My walking tour on my first day started out on the main market ... read more

Europe » France » Lower Normandy » Bayeux February 25th 2015

Normandy and D-Day are easily recognized words meaning the greatest amphibious assault in human history that brought the end of WWII in a little less than a year. I was privileged enough to get and spend a day touring the sights during my recent trip to France. I stayed in Bayeux which was liberated by the British and not touched during the war so the town is just as beautiful and authentic as it was before the war. Many of the restaurants and various places in town have signs thanking the liberators and welcoming veterans and maybe it is all a tourist ploy, but I did not get that feeling walking around the town. These people are still very thankful for the sacrifice that all the Allied troops made to liberate the French people from the ... read more
