June 25 We packed our things, stopped by the tourist office to buy some gifts and got our tickets to Paris. We left Tours at 10:30, and arrived in Paris around 12:45. We took the metro to our hotel. It was the worst metro experience yet, busy and hot. We had to wait for three trains at one station because the first two were too full for us to fit. Just about everything was closing for the afternoon so we grabbed lunch at Carrefour and went to Sacre Coeur. We had lunch overlooking Paris and listened to some street musicians. There were two guys playing guitars and singing cover songs in English and then a lady showed up and played two cover songs of Janis Joplin. They were really good. June 23 We arrived in Potiers at 6am and there was a noticeable difference in the temperature. It was cold, but that was nice as it had been so hot in Seville and even in Madrid. We went into the station and found the train to Tours didn’t leave for another half an hour so we had a little wait before leaving for our destination. Our train arrived in Tours around 8:30. We oriented ourselves on the map. Filip asked someone directions and we were on the right path toward our hotel. We got to the hotel around 9 am, too early to check in, but they allowed us to leave our bags until we could come back and check in around 1pm. We went to the tourist office and got info about the Chateaus and ... read more

June 18 It was really hard to wake up this morning since we only got 4 hours of sleep. Our train to Madrid was departing from the Seville train station at 6:45 am and we planned to leave the hotel at 6 am to have enough time to walk there. When we got down to the lobby and checked out, Carson and Jenny were still nowhere to be seen, so Molly went to knock on their door and tell them to hurry up. It turned out they were still sleeping. Molly told them they had 5 minutes to meet us downstairs. We were all downstairs at 6:20 and ready to go, so now we only had about 25 minutes to catch the train. We made it to the train station at the last minute and were ... read more

June 15 Today started early so we could catch the metro to the train station and take about a six hour train ride from Barcelona to Seville, which is in Southern Spain. We were on one of the super fast trains that goes like 300 km/h. It had a screen showing what speed we were going at any given moment. They also showed two movies during the trip, both with the audio in English, so I watched some. The first was this really sad movie that was based on a true story I guess. I’d never heard of it before, but it was with Richard Gere and it was about his relationship with his dog, and how the dog takes him to the train station to go to work every day and is there waiting there ... read more

June 11 Our train left Avignon at 6am this morning, so we were up much earlier than I would have liked. We took the first train from Avignon to Montpellier with one of the many people that like to listen to their headphones so loud that others can hear it. The next train was from Montpellier all the way to Barcelona. This was our first time on one of the Spanish trains, and not a nice one. There was another loud person on this train too, but fortunately he wasn’t right next to us. He talked for a couple hours to the women sitting across from him, even though they spoke different languages and didn’t really understand him. Then when he finally decided to listen to music, he didn’t put the headphones in his ears, and ... read more

June 9 We woke up and left Nice early this morning and were able to walk through the main streets with almost no people. Our train made it into the Avignon TGV station around 9:30 and we made it to a central bus station from there and found our hotel about an hour later. Getting here so early is nice, because it will give us almost 2 days in Avignon. Since our room wasn’t ready yet, we left our things at the hotel and went walking around and made our first tourist stop at Palace of the Popes. Although an impressive palace from outside, there was not much to see inside, since it was plundered during the French revolution and used for barracks. It took about two hours to look around the area, and then we ... read more

Wow it's been a while since we last blogged. We really don't have a better excuse than we've been too busy enjoying our time to write about it. Time to play catch up I guess. June 5 Like all travel days so far, we got up early this morning, packed our things, and headed to the train station. We went over to Monterosso again because that’s where the Intercity train that took us to Genoa stopped at. We had about two hours in Monterosso, which I used to get a light breakfast at a restaurant on the beach. We boarded our train to Genoa, where we had to transfer to another train to Ventimiglia, a small town on the French-Italian border. We met a nice family from Virginia. They were traveling around Europe and their next ... read more

June 2 We woke up early to catch a train to Pisa on our way to Cinque Terre. It always takes a while to repack our things, especially if we add new things we’ve purchased in that city. We still found a way to make everything fit though, and after our last breakfast at the B&B Bonsignori, we were on our way. While there wasn’t as much to do in Florence, I am sad to leave because it was a nice relaxing place, and I really enjoyed the place we stayed there. The trains leave frequently for Pisa, so we just showed up at the station and took the next one we could. It dropped us off at the station that is a bit further from the tower, but it had a place for us to ... read more

May 30 The train from Rome to Florence was pretty crowded. The trip took about 3 hours and we got to Florence before 2 pm. When we arrived to Florence we went directly to our hotel - B&B Bonsignori. The B&B was one of the highlights of our stay in Florence. It is located across the river from most of the main attractions, but still in the historic part of town (built 400 or 500 years ago). The B&B was in an apartment on the second floor. Two rooms in the apartment were turned into guest rooms with bathrooms and the other part was the owner’s apartment. When we showed up, we were greeted by Elizabetta, the owner, with her two little kids. She was really friendly, explained everything to us, answered all of our questions, ... read more

Hotels: Alloggi Henry: 80 Euro per night for a room with shared bathroom. It's not too far from the train station, or where you are dropped off by the bus, and is close to the grand canal. You have keys to open the front door after hours when there is no one at the reception desk. It was a little hard to find at first and we walked right past it, but found it after we turned back when we realized we had gone too far. We didn't really find it to be worth the 80 Euro, but stayed here because we decided to go one day earlier to Venice and the place we were already staying at was booked up for that night. Bernardi Semenzato: This hotel was a bit nicer. 65 Euro per night ... read more
