Firstly, I know I promised photos for this blog but they're not here. This computer is a POS (sorry, Mom, but this isn't anything new to you) and the program that is supposed to download the photos from the camera onto the computer is not working and I can't figure it out so unfortunately the photos are going to have to wait for tomorrow. We're going to buy some stuff tomorrow that will allow me to easily download the photos onto the computer and get them on here for everyone to see. That being said, today was another long, but good day. We left around 7 this morning, drove about 675 miles from Goshen, Indiana to Alexandria, Minnesota and arrived here around 7:15 this evening. It was another long, flat, empty drive with the exception of ... read more

Day 1 of our great American adventure was a success. Unfortunately Dad's VW was unable to make the trip with us due to some electrical problems so we have my Mom's Ford instead. So now we can't drive to Montana on vegetable oil, which is slightly disappointing but I'm just happy to be going regardless of the car I'm in. We made it without incident to Goshen, Indiana, approximately 650 miles from home. We left this morning around 9 and got to our motel here a little before 9 this evening. It was nice to see that since we haven't changed time zones yet, it was bright and sunny outside until about 9:30 tonight. Not really anything exciting to report upon. Dad and I alternated the driving so it wasn't bad at all. I didn't take ... read more

It's been quite a while since I used this, being I only created it to document my trip to Thailand last year, but my Dad suggested it would be a good idea to wipe the dust off and use it again for our road trip this summer. Tomorrow my father and I are leaving on a 12 (13?) day cross country road trip to a place I've been bugging him to take me for about 16 years now: Glacier National Park. While that is the highlight of the trip we'll also be making various stops at some other famous landmarks along the way. Don't expect too much commentary here but I am hoping to be able to post pictures from our trip almost daily while I'm away so keep checking back here for new photos.... read more

So I just spent about 20 minutes writing part of this blog only to accidentally leave the webpage thinking that it had saved itself, only to find out that it did not save and I had lost everything I wrote. So now for the second time, here comes my promised final blog. I've been putting off writing this all week because I really had no idea what I wanted to write and I still don't really know, but I'm going to try and hopefully give some perspective into my trip and hopefully some coherent thoughts will come out of it. I guess the first thing to start off with is: Am I glad I went to Thailand? I'm happy to say that the answer is definitely yes. I consider myself extremely lucky to have had the ... read more

This past week was my last week at school, making it my last week in Thailand. It was an incredibly easy week being my classes were working on projects or beginning new projects, so in the 4 days I was in school last week I only had to teach 2 lessons. It was a nice way to finish off the first half of my student teaching. Plus, Jason got here on Monday so it gave me stuff to do in the evenings besides being bored. Unfortunately, he was sick as soon as he got to Bangkok (see a trend yet?) but he was still able to get out and do some stuff and more importantly, we were both able to get our suits, which look simply amazing. We didn't do too much over the course of ... read more

I apologize for the tardiness of this post but I haven't had much free time this week. So this past weekend I took a trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia so I could visit Angkor Wat. It was expensive, but definitely worth the trip. I got to fly into Cambodia on a small prop plane, which was pretty cool and I spend 2 days exploring the temples. Well, it was supposed to be 2 days but I had a really crappy tour guide so it was really only like 1 full day spread out over 2 days. I've already taken care of that with the tour company and I won't bore you with it here. Needless to say, I don't think that tour guide will be conducting more tours anytime soon. But I was pretty amazed by ... read more

I'm down to 8 days left in Thailand. It seems surreal. Just like I couldn't believe it when I first came here, now I can't believe it that I am almost leaving. I think I'm ready to come home though. I've grown to like it here but obviously there are things about home that I miss and that I am craving. I especially can't believe that Jason is going to be here on Monday and that I'll get to be a sort of tour guide for a week. I'm really excited to have him here and to show him all the wonderful things I've gotten to see, as well as some of the not so wonderful things I've seen. I think with school I've really made some progress in a lot of different ways. I think ... read more

I am completely neglecting all the lesson planning I should be doing to write this, so I'm going to do my best to keep this fairly brief but still include all the details. I think that's probably an oxy moron. Anyway, I spent this past weekend in Chiang Mai. I had no idea what was there, but I had heard that it was a place I needed to see, so I went and saw it. I ended up picking a pretty nice hotel so I was pleased with the place I stayed at and upon my arrival Friday night I went straight to bed because I had to be up early on Saturday morning for my adventure. On Saturday I had booked an elephant trek, hilltribe village visit, and rafting down a river on a bamboo ... read more

As a student, I never thought I'd say something like this, but I am working my ass off at school and thoroughly enjoying it. Maybe it's just because I'm in an exceptionally good mood right now but I just feel good about things at school. Sure, I still have WAY too many things that I am horrible at as a teacher but I think I've taken some important first steps since I've been here. I'll do my best to try and explain how things have been at school but my thoughts are probably just going to jump all over the place so I'm sorry if this is hard to follow, but hopefully you're used to it by now. This week a professor from TCNJ came to observe the four of us. She observed two different classes ... read more

Before I write about my vacation I'm going to talk about school for a little bit. This past week I took over full control for the remaining classes that I wasn't teaching in yet so now I am teaching all four classes that I am placed in. I think so far things are going well but I got really mixed reactions from the students when I told them that I would be teaching their class for the remainder of the month. Some of them cheered and for others, their jaws hit the floor. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but either way, they're stuck with me for the next 3 weeks. I think my first couple of lessons have gone well but I am really nervous about this week. I begin a unit on ... read more
