Gene Stratton-Porter Historic Site in Indiana Don't miss Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site in Rome City, IN 46784. I visited there last year. 148 acre property..and her husband had ties to the West. Must visit.
Additional Books to read: I read Conrad Richter's 3 books, The Trees, The Fields, The Town, many years ago & it was an eye opener, as to "Our History". Not sure these books are still in print; bought mine in a used book store on Oahu, of all places. Love reading/following Yours & Joan's adventure! I appreciate all areas/aspects & information shared through your eloquent writing. Safe Travels to You, Joan & Your Pups!
Thanks, Jane Glad you are enjoying the posts. If so inclined, spread the word. I’d like to develop a following! And Yes, there is so much to read... Biggest problem is deciding how to allocate our limited time.
Yes it is be - AT - trice Joan was correcting me all the way up here and then at the visitor center film today someone pronounced it and she had to eat her words!!!
Glad you are home safe and sound What a lot of wonderful memories you and Joan will have from this trip. Congratulations on a trip that I am sure was both difficult and fun.
Tucumcari Tucumcari makes me so sad ... it's like a ghost of American history. I do like the people there and it's the reason we have stopped there many times.
back to charleston Because of your blog, Michael, we ate at Fleet's Landing yesterday. I had the she-crab soup with more sherry than everyone else who has ever had she-crab soup. I also had the salad with shrimp, grapes, spiced almonds, etc. Nice! Thanks for the tip. We also enjoyed the horse-drawn carriage tour. We returned to Augusta where Evelyn's daughter lives. Tomorrow off to Alpharetta for the wedding of E's granddaughter. We take the flight home on Monday. --Mickey
Before and after the move Saw the lighthouse right before it was moved and then right after when they were still settling the foundation. What a difference! and what a project!
What a picture Very nice Mike. So you're in NC. My last day tutoring today and brothers family is arriving tomorrow so - as you make your way across the state- thinking of your amazing journey. Very nice. ?
Savannah..Our dad lived there! Well, when we visited Savannah o so many years ago, there was not a bicycle bar or a tour like you had. How did you eat all that food? Perhaps it came in tiny bites?
glad you liked this part of Georgia..wonderful for history and literature buffs. Evelyn and I are going to GA the end of May to visit her daughter, etc. We will be in Augusta and Atlanta areas. We're looking forward to reading your GA blogs.
Leaving Georgia Soon! Hi Mickey. We will be heading to Charleston in a couple of days. Only 4 bucket list items in Georgia and we are almost done with them. But I've really enjoyed Georgia. Very different from Florida.
Full timing? We couldn't do it in a 35' motorhome. Had to move up to a 36' newer, better organized one that included washer/dryer. I could have stayed in it forever. Even without slides. At that time we only had one 14# dog. No cats. Life changes, we move on. Keep watching for ticks! Darn.
