WA! So much history and stunning countryside!
I was a little disheartened to think that Australia's longest straight road is not even as long as the bike leg in the Ironman...eek! :(
And what the hell were the Brits doing breeding horses out in the middle of nowhere!?! Ridiculous!
Great photos and great reading, love you both xox
What a place for a campsite!!! The photos and the blogs just keep getting better and Neil the duck keeps getting funnier!
I can easily see how you would feel something awe inspiring and magical about that place because the photos are stunning. But to actually be there, standing on the edge and looking out...it would have been awesome.
Pen and I love the photos of Mum but we think that Dad should get out from behind the camera a bit more! Maybe a tripod and use the timer? Mum, you look so happy and relaxed and BROWN! Here I was thinking I would come over to Busso with my cyclist tan and show you how sunny it has been in Melbourne but no, you guys once again have upstaged me in the tanning stakes.
See you soon xox
micheal, we are not seeing any photos, have you 'posted' any on your blog. Love the writings but would love even more some photos.
The only time we have seen Kalgoorlie was when were on the Indian pacific, and it was nite time. did enjoy the trip around though. we were taken into the 'red lite' area. The girls do go home for a break and while the first shift does that the others arrive!!! so I guess 'no man goes without' business as usual. whoops this is the end of the Noresman reprot not up to Kalgoorlie but we do know tyou are there now or have you moved on! very hot today 32.alas no swimming pool. look forward to you next report xox
There is no doubt in my mind that when Neil and i do travell we will try and follow your "tread marks!"
Happy birthday to jackie. Hope she got something nice for her birthday knowing you 2 she did.
Appreciated your experiences at the head of bight, a combination of things, but how lovely you both experienced the mixed emotions.
Looking forward to the pictures.
I bet you are very glad of the porta-potty, have you used it yet Mike?
hi guys, once again good reading. I do remember the straight stretch on the Nullabor and when we got to the 'Bend' judy really drove into that just to experience turning the steering wheel!!!
Had a laugh about the magpies.cheeky thiongs, how did Jacky like them!!
Maybe not any minute...maybe not anymore! Fowlers Bay was in the news the other day!!!
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/town-spared-from-the-sands-of-time/story-e6frea6u-1226193960801 (via The Advertiser)
I had a quick look on Google Maps at both Penong and Fowlers Bay and there isn't much to them that's for sure!
Glad to hear that South Australia is still serving up surprises even as you ready to move into WA!
See you in Busso soon! xoxo
fashion guru I have been shopping with fashion guru and I know what she is like now these people with pj on well you dont have to go all that way we have them in safeway in kyneton anytime day or night
fashion statements. well done 'fashion guru' I have to say sometimes when you see folk walking/strolling thru places you can sort of tell they are travellers from their dress!!! as you say Trish the trackie pants and t-shirts and thongs, sandels, or laceups of all sorts. Mike your dress code seems to be shorts and t-shirts or 'topless' especially at the beach! How is the suntan by the way!
reading this friday nite fish'n chip nite nothing like the seafood you are having though! might even have a hamburger!!
hello from vic great reading Mike and trish. I was going to ask did you awim in the 'cage; i do hope so! lucky to be swimming really after the amazing weather we have been experiencing here. the other nite the most amazing storm came through, never seen rain faling and bein blown 'every which way' the wind was so strong. lots of damage to some properties. always amazes me that some houses lose lots of trees and the house next door doesn't! the house on the corner up from us had some awful debris but no structural damage to the house. come on summer!!
Judy (my friend in WA) she and i stayed at Ceduna when we drove home from Perth many moons ago now. we were 21! we made a pact that we would stay over in Eucla and ceduna. did not see anything other than the motel. got in late left early. The Nullaboor was dirt road and potholes great experience for 2 girls. had 2 puctures along the way, made ourselves 'damsels in distress' and got help to change the tyres. !!!!!
Trish thanks for the book, so llovely of you to send to me.
Only a little one?!?! Hi guys!
Glad to hear Ceduna is treating you well and it definitely sounds like Baldy's fish shop is the place to go! You better stock up on oysters and fish before you hit the nullarbour!
Oh, and stay out of the water!
Santa He arrived after free camping for a few days ...not sure if he will see Xmas as yet.
Neil the Duck was an important inclusion to guard the Trakkie when we are away from it, as he did at the front door at Kyneton for over a year !Neil has only recently requested that he also get some 'air time" (photos!) in the Blog.
Jackie swimming! That photo of her bouncing through the water is brilliant! She is such a water dog!
So glad you guys got to stay here for a few days and recharge and unwind and just have a great time. It really does look amazing, loving the photos and all the fun facts!!
Where did Santa Claus come from? Nice beard Dad!
This campsite has to be one of the best I've ever seen, right on the edge of that amazing beach and it would have been great over the last few days with some warm weather camping under the shade and next to the beach! Through in the King George Whiting and some drinks and you've pretty much got it made!
It looks as though Neil the Duck has enjoyed himself too! Still can't believe the duck made the packing list...haha!
Winners! You guys just sound like you are having the best time, complete with a win in the Melbourne Cup Sweep and free dinner!
Mum, I have no idea where you packed your dress, hat and flowers (!!) but you look stunning!
And I'm glad to hear that Dad got dressed up too, pulling out all the stops with the clean shorts!
My Birthday! My birthday wasn't a low, I had a great day! Lunch with the Grandies was fun, and dinner with Penny was really nice and then I got surprised by my friends when I got home as they were all in my house having drinks and cake! It would have been really good to see you both but I will see you very soon! But I am glad you had a toast, and with a bottle of Rowanston no less!
Once again, the facts and information in your blog is amazing! And the photos are equally impressive. Pt Lincoln sounds like an amazingly cocooned hiding spot for rich people, oblivious to the GFC etcetera! But, the grass is always greener and I am sure that they are feeling the pinch, especially last year when China banned Aussie lobsters.
Gallipoli beach looks fantastic, just like the movie funnily enough! Theakstones crevasse looks man made, just shows the awesome power of those fault lines.
Oh, and shark cage diving? No thanks!
"Next stop, Darwin" It's not every day you see a street sign with the two options being Darwin and Perth! That is one serious crossroad.
I am amazed at the history of the areas you guys have been too, and the facts and trivia are awesome! Penny wants to know what book you are getting it from, I told her that you just knew everything, our little secret ;)
Quorn - what a funny name though! Is it pronounced "corn" or "kworn"? And what the heck is it named after? And what is an overhead cash shuttle system?? Still, a very picturesque little town and as you said, very fitting for an early Australian movie setting.
AWESOME PHOTOS!!! Still can't comment on the photos...must be something to do with the work computer setup but they are great photos! Jackie looked like she had a ball, except for the bath in the bucket - she doesn't look like she is enjoying that too much!
Can't comment on the photos... But the photos are fantastic - must be the camera, can't be the photographer! Hehe!
The photos of you two with your 'daughter' are really nice! And if I hadn't seen them with my own eyes I would swear she was in the will!
Emu racing? Haha! That photo of Mum is hilarious! And it is good to see that Dad can come out from behind the camera, nice photo of him on the jetty.
As usual, your camp setup looked fantastic - definitely not roughing it!
Hi, we are Mike and Trish and about to start the next phase of our lives. Over thirty years ago we travelled from London to Kathmandu which instilled in us a love of travel. We live in Australia and since our initial adventure have done the "family thing". During this period we have maintained our travel bug by regular trips OS but mostly by 4WDing and camping trips throughout this great country. Now it is time to do the big lap, "The Wrong Way Around." We have sold up in Kyneton, Victoria and put into storage what we wish to keep to furnish our next 'base' and the plan is to travel for at lea... full info
