We're just an old married couple who love to travel. We usually take 5 or 6 trips a year. 2 or 3 of those trips will be to our place on St. Thomas, USVI. This year we are living & working in Yellowstone for the summer after a spring trip to Florida. Someone suggested that we post a blog. It sounds like a plan.

Headed home. Good day to have left as the weather turned windy, cool and rainy. Watch for the next blog which will be Granby, Colorado, another road trip.... read more

Enjoyable day yesterday just hanging out at the resort pool. Later we met a friend from St. Thomas now living in the area. Happy Hour drinks at Lilly's and then dinner at Fish Lips in Port Canaveral. The food was great all around and we had a pretty good sampling of the menu between the three of us. I had scallops and risotto; Dennis had scewers of shrimp, beef and thresher shark; our friend at a ribeye sandwich. This restruant is right on the water and good place to watch the cruise ships leaving in the early evening.... read more

Yesterday we had a lovely morning at the beach. The afternoon was spent discussing the costs and benefits of converting our timeshares to the point system with John, the realtor here. After that we went out to the Cocoa Beach Pier for happy hour. We discovered that the lobster special, though raised to $10, still is happening on Fridays so we'll be back. We enjoyed our drinks and some appetizers while watching the surfers. They were struggling, the waves weren't great. After this we drove around looking at the properties in Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. We also checked out the beaches. I don't know what a "bad" beach would look like, but these were all great.... read more

We finally made it to the beach, yay! Cocoa Beach has flattened out and doubled in width since our first trip 30+ years ago. Unfortunately for Dennis this also means the boogie boarding isn't as good as it used to be. It's great for me, beach lounger that I am. We feasted on blue crab for dinner at the Old Fish House - so tasty. They have tried to slip in a females in the past so be specific, ask for all males and enjoy. We closed out the evening with the band in the pool area. Very nice day.... read more

3rd day and we have yet to sit on the beach. Okay, first night we were exhausted. Happy hour, grocery shopping and done for the day. Yesterday was kind of cloudy all day climaxing in a horrific storm last night. We were under a tornado warning for 3 1/2 hours and it rained buckets - 2 to 3 inches an hour. We did manage to slip in happy hour again, however. Today we attended the welcome meeting at our condo and got talking about buying a 3rd week. It seems a little crazy and we really can't do it right now. Turns out if we want to turn one of our weeks into points for a nominal fee we can buy a small hotel unit week. It would be nice if sometime in the future the ... read more

Yesterday was a great day. We went on a Kayak nature tour by Big Pine Kayak Adventures. It turned out to be a private tour, just the guide, Dennis and myself. After paddling across the channel to No Name Key we went on the trail through the mangroves. It felt a bit other-worldly, very mysterious deep in the mangroves. We saw a huge heron, many fish, a small barracuda, crabs, colorful spiders and, thankfully no snakes. We came out into a shallow pond containing thousands of jelly fish. It was a unique adventure that I highly recommend. In the evening we went to Mangrove Mama's where I enjoyed some excellent snapper and Dennis tried a lobster Reuben which had been recommended by our kayak guide, Cris. It sounds strange, but was actually quite tasty. The band ... read more

Catching up - Days Inn Silver Springs Florida is the worst Days Inn I've ever seen. Drive on to Ocala - plenty of hotels to choose from. We've been in the Keys a couple of days now. Our rental here on Ramrod Kay is fantastic! It's almost as big as our house in Illinois and in a great location to get to everything. The first night we were tired from a long day of driving and went to the nearby Boondocks bar. Good food and entertainment. We spent yesterday at Key West. Highlights were lunch at Salute! - right on the beach (where the food was great and relatively inexpensive) and drinks at the top of the Holiday Inn with 360 degree views. We bought tickets on the City View trolleys; it's a pretty good deal ... read more

Day 1 was a complete yawn. It consisted of driving through Illinois the long way. The only highlights were the new menu at Taco Bell for lunch and a very nice dinner at Cracker Barrel. We're not going for local flavor, just trying to get there. We stayed the night at Days Inn in Murfreesboro, TN. That's where I'm blogging from this morning. Tonight we won't be at our destination, but we will be in Florida.... read more
