If I were a book... I'd be not too long - short, if you will - maybe 200 or 300 pages, with a quirky title that has absolutely nothing to do with the contents, like "Don't mess with the swallows", or something. But better. And the book would be delightfully random, and when you get to the end, you will say, "what on earth was THAT about?", but in a good way. Only, some people will hate it with such a passion that they gives themselves a hernia. But the critics will LOVE it. And it will be sold in upmarket independent book shops, and it will keep them afloat through the Internet age. Whenever people come into the book shop, the half-Algerian, half red Indian owner, who wears enormous but awesome glasses, he will recommend ... read more

Dear blog subscribers, here be a warning to you all: the blog you are about to read contains a tale that is not for the faint-hearted. Those of you with a weak bladder, look away, and just be glad you weren't doing this ABOMINABLE journey with us. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. What can I say about our terrible, terrible trip from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh? I have, in the past, been told "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" but I have always summarily ignored this advice, and will continue to do so. Let this post be evidence of this. Q.E.D. We got up at a horrible hour (7 something a.m - yes, a.m: in the MORNING) because we were supposed to be picked up at the hotel at 8:30 and ... read more

Our guidebook had told us that to only spend one day at the temples of Angkor was 'sacrilege'. Despite fears that we would be all 'templed-out' after just one day of touring, we put our faith in LP and decided to spend a second day around the sights. Touring with a guide and a driver certainly wasn't cheap; perhaps for a family, but not for two. We'd booked to spend a full day of touring, but decided that we would rather spend a half-day touring as this was more cost-effective. Ultimately, this turned out to be a good decision, however an extra hour or so would have given us a little time to see Preah Khan, another Angkorian temple which Elana had particularly wanted to see. Our guide (the same guy as yesterday, called Sam) met ... read more

Sua s'dei (hello - Cambodian style), readers :D We have been to see LOTS of temples. Lots. So many, in fact, that I can't really remember which ones we've seen, but I'll try. We got up at the unearthly hour of 8:30 (but this was not as early as the concierge suggested; he thought we should start our temple tour at 8am - what a weirdo!), got dressed (I wore my cream topshop t-shirt and new yellow shorts, and Mike wore a bright blue t-shirt with green checked shorts - a daring combination; you can reserve judgement for when you see the photos ), and we ate breakfast. I went for a fusion breakfast, my theme being "today I will mainly be eating yellow and white". My breakfast matched my clothes. It was very avant-garde. I ... read more

Hi all, We've set up this blog so that we have a record of what we have seen and done on this trip, and so that you can have a look at what we've got up to whilst we're off doing it. We've decided to take it in turns to write blogs, so you will be treated to our different perceptions of the places we visit. This first entry is nice and simple- it's about our journey here: Our flight over to Bangkok was relatively uneventful- we turned up at Heathrow to be told that the flight was definitely not overbooked and that we could stretch out on the empty seats (though they wouldn't let us upgrade to the two empty seats in first class). Elana predictably fell asleep before the plane had even left the ... read more
