How gorgeous!
It's bitterly cold in Tassie tonight, and I'm getting through it by virtually transporting myself to those sunny shores... and helping myself to a seafood linguine at a table with a view :)

On the move!
How exciting... I saw your birthday blog but wasn't logged in to post. Happy big birthdays to you both - travel birthdays are so much more special! Looking forward to reading about your trip. I need to read up on my old travel notes, but the only thing I remember about Fiesole was an interesting cemetery and a hot chocolate so thick it held a spoon upright :)

Ancient graffiti vandal

Awesome graffiti
A graffiti from 1627! What an awesome thing to see. I once saw a graffiti from the 18th century in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Supposedly there is a 1000 year old Viking graffiti in Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. I never found that one though when I was looking for it. /Ake

Hi. This is John. I have only just discovered your blogs. Great reading. I am one of the TB moderators and live in Budgewoi, just down the road from you. When you are next home, maybe we can get together for a coffee. If you haven't already arranged it, go up to Nuwara Eliya by train. It is quite an adventure (but make sure you go First Class!). Sylvia and I stayed at the Dilmah tea plantation but I believe it has now been turned into a five star hotel.

Thanks John. We're away for quite a while this time and actually live in Valla Beach now when we're back in Oz. Saying that though, we still maintain links with Newcastle and so yes, should try and catch up some time next year. Thanks for the Sri Lanka tip, we'll bear that in mind in January!

Welcome to Tassie
What a beautiful intro you had to this beautiful State. The pademelons are normally so shy, I'm amazed they came up to beg for food. Were you blessed with possum wee on everything too? One of our dogs used to chase possums up the apple trees and then sit guard for hours on end... the possums would relentlessly wee on his head, and it was seriously foul!

Sanya beach

Sanya
Wow. I've heard they have international beauty contests...holiday place for the rich etc in Sanya, but your pic blows me away Meryl. I imagined idyllic beaches...sunset strolls with sand between the toes...relaxing in a Chinese ocean wonderland. How naive am I? HIghrise after highrise...swarms of people on the sand...reckon your pic may be on a sparse day!!!

Sanya
Yep, it's certainly developed. But the beach in Tianya was so much more relaxed as you can see from the other photos - but it's only time...

The best squid lunch ever!

Inspiration...
This looks fabulous and inspired our Sunday lunch of rice with spicy beef and Chinese greens (on a cold and damp autumn day) :)

Wonderful :)
Beautifully written, love your experience. I too prefer the less concrete side of cities :)

Thanks
Thank you for your kind words. We need more green in these modern cities.

It's a tight squeeze

It's a tight squeeze
Reminds me of times in the hutongs in Beijing. Are they still there? I wonder. Sad to hear so much old of Guangxi is being replaced with the new...but if anyone can make new appear ancient it is the Chinese. Enjoy it while you can Meryl.

You hope that more and more people will understand the importance of maintaining some of that heritage...
