Our second ever visit to Mammouth Cave National Park was with Bill and Loretta. We chose a different tour, Domes and Dripstone, which descended 26 stories below the surface! Lots of stairs and narrow passageways. A large group of ladies, dressed like Mennonites, provided beautiful vocal singing music in the cave as we walked. The next day we visited the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. Mike’s favorite was a 1970’s Donnybrooke green corvette. Our hosts at Singing Hills RV Park invited us to their small country church which we enjoyed on Sunday.... read more

Our second Harvest Host stay was the Benton Family Farm Agricultural Learning Center south of Cincinnati. This 260 acre 4th generation farm has goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, horses, sheep, cows and Taco, their Llama. Nearby was the Ark Encounter, a Christian young Earth creationist theme park we visited. The Ark structure was enormous inside and out! The science behind its construction and operation was impressive. That night Jen, Eric and the boys hosted us for dinner.... read more

In Fort Wayne, we boondocked at Cedar Creek Farm which was stocked with pumpkins, mums and apples for Halloween. We bought a cauliflower the size of your head. Dee and Wayne Johnson, missionaries we financially supported for decades, hosted us for dinner at their home. Before we left town the next morning, Safelite repaired a chip in our RV windshield in the westside Walmart parking lot.... read more

We drove out of our way to visit the only campground we had visited before (twice, actually). The Warren Dunes State Park campsite itself was sandy, although surrounded by trees. It was warm and windy when we rode our bikes to the dunes. The sand was very fine and sandblasted your body a little. The Lake Michigan shoreline stretched into infinity. In Benton Harbor, we enjoyed the Mason Jar Café and the St. Joseph North pier. Two light houses were located along the pier, extending roughly a quarter mile into the lake.... read more

This was our first casino camping. The Oasis RV Park Hollywood Casino had a small campground not far from the main hotel. Lois doesn’t like casino’s but agreed to walk through with me. One older woman evidently hit a slot machine jackpot of a few thousand dollars. She did the happy dance in her chair. The first morning we drove into Chicago and picked up Amanda for breakfast at Yoke. Then we picked up Aiden and visited the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry that included a special Lego art exhibit. Lunch included playing Bocce Ball at Pinstripes.... read more

In the drive through Milwaukee, we experienced the scariest and roughest road of our RV life. But Cliffside was nice and we enjoyed a visit to the White Point Lighthouse outside Racine. The lighthouse and grounds were a visual treat, like something you would use for a jigsaw puzzle. Strong waves were coming to shore off Lake Michigan. In Racine, we drove around Johnson & Johnson’s corporate headquarters designed by Frank Llyod Wright, a real 1950’s look.... read more

Our next destination was located northeast of Green Bay. The first morning we worked out at Planet Fitness and then took the tour of historic Lambeau Field. The Classic Tour included the upper suites, a walk down the player’s tunnel (with piped in crowd noise) and a walk onto the field level tarmac. Fortunately, the field wasn’t frozen tundra that day! The grass was manicured and very green. Green Bay is famous also for its city amusement park (free admission and $1 rides) but it was closed that day.... read more

The drive to Wells State Park was rainy through forests of fir trees. Upon arrival, we felt like we were back in civilization. This is a nice campground with walking trails right along Lake Michigan. The camp hosts, Don and Jen (local people), offered free coffee and hot chocolate every morning... read more

Poor weather caused us to bypass the Picture Rock area and head to our western most campground outside of Marquette. The drive was picturesque and out campsite allowed us a direct view of Lake Independence. We visited a Marquette laundromat, toured the city, and ate our first pastie (a UP staple) at the famous Jean Kay’s. On the way back to camp, we drove through the forest of Presque Isle Park. On day two, we hike up nearby Thomas Rock Overlook then drove a dirt road 10 miles to Yellow Dog River Falls (this is why we bought a Jeep). We continued back to Marquette on the same dirt road another 40 miles, stunningly beautiful but teeth chattering in stretches.... read more

This campground was located right next to the Tahquamenon River. The first night we drove up to the Whitefish Point lighthouse and saw the Northern Lights off of Lake Superior. There are two beautiful but separate waterfalls. The water is amber color like root beer due to the tannic acid of the hemlock trees. We tried to bike a local foot trail but had to turn around after it became too difficult to traverse. Our camphosts, John and Karin (from Texas) and camp neighbors Holly and Jodie (from Michigan) were delightful neighbors.... read more
