So yesterday was an amazing day!! We woke up at 6 am and met our biking tour guide at a local cafe. We took a 45 minute drive to our starting point which was at 4700 km elevation. I actually lost my balance in the first 30 seconds on the bike at toppled over. After that I was fine. The first few legs of the ride were pretty easy, fairly level road with easy going gravel. I opted out of a grueling 8 km uphill bike ride that the boys in our group did. Then got back on the bike at the start of the "World's Most Dangerous Road" The road was very narrow and had loose gravel with large rocks in the road ("murder muffins"). We also had to share the road with cars. It ... read more

So we booked our Saturday bike ride and it is way more than we expected!! We meet at the coffee shop at 7:30 where we will have an hour drive up the mountain. We begin at nearly 5,000 km altitude and have a 4-5 hour (mostly downhill) ride. At the bottom there is an animal santuary where I get to play with monkey and some other animals (not quite sure what else they have there) and then I am going on a zip line over the coca fields!!!! Can´t wait. So for a little over $100 US I get all of that, lunch, pictures and videos, and a guide!!! Elise, give my boys a kiss for me!!! I miss their cute little faces!!... read more

Today we met with our local coordcinator to discuss our work in the hospital. Our coordinator will be showing us how to transit to the hospital and tomorrow we are going to the hospital to meet the director and hopefully will find our who our preceptors are. Later today we will be shoipping and booking our bike trip that we´re doing this weekend!! The city seems very safe and our house has a double deadbolt steel gate outside it. The house is very comfortable, we´re fed super healthy food, and our host mamma is very nice. My Spanish is coming along and hopefully will come back and be able to conversate with Mark before he goes to Argentina. The high altitude has been a little strange to get used to. My face and fingers are tingling ... read more

Hi guys, So I made it into La Paz early this morning and we had a driver waiting to take us to our host family´s house. We are staying in a nice three story house and our host is a very nice middle-aged woman. We have nice healthy meals cooked for us and we have hot water (yes, YES, YES!!!). We are going to check out the city today and meet with our hospital coordinator this evening. We don´t start working until Monday and I am told that there is a festival in late May/early June so we might be lucky enough to get to see that this weekend. Otherwise we will be enbarking on a bike ride dubbed the "The World´s Most Dangerous Road". Don´t worry I saw some people who said they´ve done it ... read more
