Close to a kibbutz near Tivon there is a spring. The water comes out of the ground and makes a little pond with cold water to swim in. The guys got the brilliant idea of going there for a small picnic and to smoke some nargila. I thought it sounded very beautiful and nice so I was all for this picnic next to the pond. When we arrived I could do nothing else but laugh. Apparently they put a cement lid above the pond and made a little whole in it (for crawling in and out). The cement lid was put there to prevent children from falling into the pond. But honestly now it looks like a very tragic and funny pond. Take a close look at the pictures.... read more

Jom Kippoer is the most important holiday for the Jews. From Rosh Hashana, which took place 10 days ago until today and tomorrow (Jom Kippoer) the Jewish people look back at the year that has passed. On Jom Kippoer the Jews fast for 25 hours. They don't eat, drink, use electricity (incl. watching tv) have sex, wash themselves or drive cars. Cars are not driven by anyone on Jom Kippoer. It is 25 hours of peace and quiet. It gives you time to reflect on the year that passed and ask for forgiveness to your family, friends and to God. Asking forgiveness is not the only thing, the fasting and the reflecting is supposed to make you aware of your actions and have compassion for other peoples actions. You are supposed to learn and grow from ... read more

Nazareth is located 20 kilometers from Tivon (where i live). Nazareth is an arab-christian city with a beautiful Basillica it is known as the city Jesus grew up in. Me and Roee went there for a couple of hours. The traffic was absoloutey horrible in the center. After having finally parked our car we went to the town square which was next to a little roundabout. Nazareth wasn't really 'all that' in my eyes. After visiting the The Church of the Annunciation (which is the most famous sight) we took a walk through the market, which was very similair to the arab market in Jerusalem. After having seen the The Church of the Annunciation, The Church of St. Joseph's Carpentry and the market we went for a drink. And that is about it of what there ... read more

The title of this blog is inspired by a divingcenters slogan. In our last day of the first star course a photographer joined us in two dives. The picture he took are amazing! The first dive that day was to the Satile: - The Satil is a sunken navyshipwreck. - The deck is on 18 metres depth and the bottom of the ship is at 24 metres. - 18 metres was the furthest we went during our first star course. In the second star course we went to the Satil again only this time we swam at the bottom of the ship and we entered one of the mashinerooms. - The Satil was beautiful, really breathtaking. - The Satil was sunken 20 years ago for the purpose of a new diving site only. - During our ... read more

Happy New Year everybody! Today is ראש השנה‎, Rosh Hashana, New Years Eve:) We are now in year 5770 actually. So what did I do on New Years Eve? I ate an apple and dipped it in honey. This symbolises a sweet start on the year to come. The sad part is: I didn't find it tasty at all! ... read more

I spontaneously decided to go to Eilat with three of Roees friends two weeks ago. We bought bustickets and left at midnight. The busride is five and a half hours from Haifa to Eilat. We arrived there very early in other words. Our first diving lesson started at 9 in that same morning. I first completed a one star diving class, which allows me to dive down to 18 metres. The course lasted for five days starting with lectures and movies in the morning and ending with dives in the afternoon. In the first three days we did a lot of excercises under the water like taking off our goggles under water and putting them back on, emergency excercises in case you run out of air or loose your regulator etc. During the first course I ... read more

Last weekend I went with Roees friends to the Kinerret. We bought meat, salad, pita and hummus... all the necessary stuff. The first car left on friday afternoon with Yohai, Jenny, Ohad and me. We arrived a little late at the Kinerret so instead of taking a hike in the Golan we went to visit Tiberias. Tiberias is located on the coast of the Kinerret. Here we took a look at the ancient ruins of the old city and ate a frozen yoghurt along the promenade. The Kinerret is located 209 meters below sea level, it is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth and the second-lowest lake in the world (after the Dead Sea, a saltwater lake). Water levels are dangerously low nowadays, putting the Sea at risk of becoming irreversibly salinized by the salt water ... read more

I'm officialy 23 years old. And I know most of you are wondering how I spent my birthday. Well...it all started at midnight. I was sitting in the car on my way to a pub in a kibbutz with Roee and his friends. The pub was a tent with a lot of rugs and cushions, people come there to smoke nirgila - a.k.a. hubblybubbly. We did a round of birthdayshots and to my pleasent surprise I got icecream with whipped cream and sparlkes in it. I really enjoyed how everyone did an effort and remembered my birthday. Anyways we smoked nirgila and enjoyed the evening. The next day was Roees brothers Bar Mitzvah. It was a very nice experience, but it did make me feel a little strange. Strange in the sence that I realised how ... read more

Jerusalem, The Holy City. This was the second daytrip I did with the Ulpan. They had three different options: 1. The Jewsih tour 2. The Christian tour 3. Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum I chose the Christian tour. I went with my new friend Kelsy from California. It was hot like always, but I did get to see a lot of nice things. The bus dropped us at the City of David on Mount Zion. David is burried here. That's David from the 'David and Goliat' story. The Last Meal Court was also located here. After having a toiletbreak (after 1.5hours in the bus) we went down to the Catholic Cemetery. I didn't quite know what we were doing there, but then I realised that the famous Oskar Schindler was burried here. Remember the last part of ... read more

Close to Roees house there is a statue of Alexander Zaid on a horse. The statue is located on top of a mountain with a gorgeous view over a valley. This is our favourite spot for drinking coffee. Yuval brings the guitar, Ohad and Roee bring their harmonicas and the rest sits there enjoying the music and the coffee. When Roee is in the army during the week I spend my time hanging out with Yuval and Ohad. Now and then the hardworking Itamar also joins us, but that depends on if he is not to tired. They are all great guys and I really like hanging out with them. Here are some pictures from a evening with coffee and music. ... read more
