Locks Love all the pictures of locks and scenery but you can keep the rat! Do you have time to relax and read as you slowly go by? I always envisaged a relaxed holiday in a canal boat motoring slowly along beside beautiful scenery with book in hand should I wish to read, sipping copious cups of tea. Did I get it all wrong?
Viewing photos Great shots and commentry as always. Coments back on line today. Whent off yesterday. Had to use messenger. Are the canals one way or two? Enjoy your journey. Love modris as always from the three of us.
Capestang Yet more stained glass - brilliant. I think it is great that so many churches/cathedrals have huge windows that tell a story. It adds to the history of a place; and where there is new stained glass they manage to bring the story up to date. Have a great time on the staircase - should make for some interesting photos as you go through all those locks.
Locks I never realised you would have to go through so many locks. I've been a number of times in houseboats on the Murray River and there were certainly locks but boy, you seem to be constantly in them. What is the mileage between locks? I thought you would meander along the cNals with the odd lick here or there. The countryside seems beautiful and I would love visiting the small villages. Do you return the same way or is it a circuitous trip? xxx
Me too. We have a long stretch now without locks. It is not the relaxing holiday I thought it would be and is quite physically demanding. We finish Friday morning. Xo
Homps Service from le Boat sounds reasonably good, especially using the phone app translator; sure beats some of the tradies in Sydney! French rain is cold - who'd have thunk it; seriously, hope the weather improves for the next stages on the canal. Looking forward to seeing photos of the staircase of locks; we used to have one near us back in the UK - and they are quite impressive. Keep having a good time.
Traffic jam at the locks Hadn't considered the possibility of having to queue to go through the locks or having to wait for the lock guy to have his lunch break. However, guess it all adds to the experience - and you are supposed to be having a relaxed time - so just sit back and enjoy some bread and cheese, and, wine (of course) while you let rural France proceed at the usual pace.
Trebes Pity about the wasp sting - but have French doctors changed their style; in the past they were fixated on suppositories rather than pills and lotions! Great looking floral display on the bridge; just adds so much more.
Canal du Midi Now you can do your Rick Stein cruising impression. Good to hear that the locals are supportive of the tourists; the delivery to the boat was a smart move on their part.
Food! What a foodie life you are leading! A decent croissant - very difficult to find down here. Crepes - always loved the ones in Brittany. Then to cap it all off you have cassoulet. Will your version of cassoulet be on the menu up in HB? Also, interesting to see Carcassonne from a lower level; the coverage on the Tour de France is mainly overheads from the helicopter.
