We left Homps this morning and spent a long time at the first lock waiting for our turn so we only made it into Argens-Minervois just before lunchtime. As the next lock wouldn’t open for a while, we stopped and had a walk around the town, before returning to the boat for lunch.

After 2pm, we set off again and passed through the towns of Roubia, Paraza, Ventenac-en-Minervois and le Somail.

Just past le Somail, the canal splits into 2, with one branch leading towards Navaronne and another continuing as the Canal du Midi. We continued on, past the village of Argeliers, and moored for the night with vineyards on both sides of the canal.

Locks
I never realised you would have to go through so many locks. I've been a number of times in houseboats on the Murray River and there were certainly locks but boy, you seem to be constantly in them. What is the mileage between locks? I thought you would meander along the cNals with the odd lick here or there. The countryside seems beautiful and I would love visiting the small villages. Do you return the same way or is it a circuitous trip? xxx

Me too. We have a long stretch now without locks. It is not the relaxing holiday I thought it would be and is quite physically demanding. We finish Friday morning. Xo
