Twas my first time to travel alone. Just wanted to see what all the Gringos are up to. Because for a Filipino, travelling alone is sad. We always travel abroad in groups. Fetched by a tour bus every morning where everyone is Filipino and we follow a man with a flag and a portable PA system. We wear identical stickers and sometimes even matching caps. I never thought that was weird at all until I met Dutch backpacker Maaike while diving in Donsol. I've never travelled alone. I usually just follow the smart one in the group whenever I'm at the airport. I never had to pay travel tax on my own. Being the youngest child in the Philippines means everyone takes care of you. So there are a lot of things that I didnt know ... read more

We picked a slow ship to Macau from Hongkong unknowingly. It took an hour and a half instead of just 45 minutes. I got dizzy. Make sure not to make the same mistake. Saw the coastline of China. Not much beach there, and the water looks cold. The line at the immigration was looooong. When we finally got out two Filipina girls approached us and offered to be our guides. We only had to pay 50 HKD each! Thats a steal! Macau tours cost 80USD per day. Theyre cleaning ladies in Macau and work as tour guides on their free time. The only catch is that we had to register at two casinos that gave free game credits and we had to give them the cards that had free credits. We didnt mind at all. It ... read more

We opted for a package tour that included transfers from one place to another coz its apparently cheaper that way. 168 USD for a 4day 3 nights stay in a nice hotel (Rambler Garden) with free daily breakfast, with tickets to disney resort and ocean park with tour guide and a shuttle thats takes us everywhere and back to the hotel. The city tour was blah. I dont even remember much of it but the package tour said its mandatory. Thats because they take you to stores that theyre affiliated with. Like the souvenir shop that had expensive stuff. They also took us to a Jewelry store that the travel agency said sponsored the tour thats why its dirt cheap. We went to a harbour which was where one of the james bond movies was filmed. ... read more

We left CWC early in the morning. Free ride to Naga City! From Naga we rode a van going to Sabang port. The trip took an hour and a half. Good thing the driver stopped at a gas station coz i really had to pee. Ate a whole watermelon as midnight snack. When we got to the port the boat was already full. We were late for about five minutes. We should never have stopped to buy water or we would have made it. It was 7am and the next boat leaves at 9am and it wasnt there yet. We had breakfast at a diner there. Very dodgy but there was no other place with seats. We bought a huge papaya. Sheli and I had rice and eggs. Sheli talked to a girl who was waiting ... read more

Lau and Shelli were still undecided last wednesday when I asked them if we were good to go. So I looked for a travel buddy in travbuddy dot com and found Victor. Seemed like a nice enough guy whos about my age. Checked his facebook page to make sure that hes not a creep. He turned out okay. So I decided to meet up with him in Donsol. But Lau and Shelli decided to go in the last minute. So the three of us went together. It was my first time to go to the Bicol region. My first time in Araneta bus station. It was absolutely crazy! All the good buses were fully booked. We ended up in a crappy bus with cramped seats. The trip was supposed to take only 10 hours but the ... read more

We left at 4am on what looked like a dump truck! It was horrible. But that was the best thing those kids could come up with and Im very proud of them for organizing the trip without much help from the adults. But yes, it was uncomfortable. Pico De Loro is two hour drive from Manila. And it takes two and a half hours to get to the top. I didnt have breakfast, I dont think anyone did. We also didnt get much sleep. Which is bad. I should have been the responsible adult to tell them to sleep early. But since I didnt get to sleep much and didnt have breakfast my energy was running out after just 20 minutes of hiking. We came across a station where there was running water coming from the ... read more

It was midnight when we got to Thailand. The weather as I expected is exactly the same weather that we have in the Philippines. A lot less polluted though. Its pretty clean for filipino standards. We booked a room in Centrepointe serviced apartments near Pantip. Its in one of the shopping districts a couple of blocks away from Siam Center. We booked it online weeks before we arrived but when we got there there was no room available, but we already paid for it so they gave us the Presidential Suite! And sweet it was. It had a kitchen, big bathroom with bathtub, dining room, living room with big LCD tv. The bedroom was nice and it had a walk in closet. It was fabulous, I felt rich. They've got wifi too. The following morning a ... read more

Emie and I decided to visit the Tinipak River in Rizal province. We didnt really know how to go there. We just asked for directions along the way. We just didn't really know how to get there but we knew we'd find our destination somehow. We heard about this place from some friends who went there. Emie and I love to swim and hike so off we went even if it was just the two of us. After about two hours of jeepney rides. We finally got to the Tanay station where there was a jeepney that could take us to Daraitan. Unfortunately, we got there a little late, about 9 AM. We didnt know that there were only two trips per day. The next trip leaves at noon. The jeepney was already there though. It ... read more

Zambales is a province two hours north of Manila. My family likes to spend time there when we get bored during the weekend. The photos here were taken about six months ago. The ones where I had hair was taken a year ago. This is Baloy long beach just outside Angeles city. This is not the right place for you if you're looking for a wholesome time. Angeles is littered with hookers. In the Orchid Garden Hotel where we stayed, most of the guests were old white men with their Filipina companion. The waitresses were all thin pretty girls in bathing suits with wrap around short skirt. We only go there because its the nearest beach. The hotel was okay. It costs about 3,600 pesos per night. They have a pool, plasma tv with cable. The ... read more

Asia » Philippines » Bulacan June 6th 2009

My friends and I decided to go to Licao-Licao in Bulacan last weekend. This is our second trip there. We discovered the place last year. It was a short hiking trip that ended in a quaint waterfalls. Its not too far from the city. Maybe just an hour away from Tungko but it looks pretty remote. Very very few people, saw four houses in the entire village and they dont have electricity. I wonder what its like to live without electricity. What would be the use of TV? The water was clean and the falls was breathtaking. We had to go down the mountain and trek the river for about 20 minutes to get to the falls. We had fun swimming and taking silly pictures. It did rain however so we decided to go home earlier ... read more
