I really enjoyed your post from Kenya, and it sounds like you're having an amazing time there. I haven't been yet, but I hope to soon. My blog is looking for travel reviews, photos, etc, to share. If you have the time, check it out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com, or email me at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com. Continued fun on your travels!

Awww, Jess what an amazing time you had...I'm a sap so I'd be getting all emotional too (hopefully Rach and Helli aren't or we're in for it). I can't wait to see photos! xoxo
I think the midget swings would have made the whole thing worth it...not that I would have been able to fit from the looks of it in your photo! Hmmm, an ostrich farm and only two ostriches? Sounds like a bit of a stretch!
: ) I wake up to singing every morning too...Bill has to get up and to work before me and I think he hates seeing me comfortable and asleep so he sings(croaks) "Good morning...good morning, good morning." I'm sure some day I will come to appreciate it.
Wow, they really pack them in in the dorms...three levels of bunk beds.
I've always wondered if the water swirling thing was a myth...thanks for debunking it. I'll check the toilet at work and let you know which way it swirls. I live the photo of the fruit and veg stand...the colors are fabulous!
plug hole Could you experiment with inverting a water bottle with a little water in (not too muhc so it glugs!)? I think you should try and do a test either side and on the actual equater. You would think there would be sinks aligned along the equater for tourists to test!
xh
So did you have a whole naming ceremony? Who chose your name? Shame you won't be able to eat any antelope...hope you got your fill before receiving your name! : )
Cockroach!! All I have to say about the cockroach is ew and I think that would put me off food for a week!! Sounds like your having a great time out there. As for the collective nouns you could have a congregation, a dissimulation or a flock of birds although there's nothing special for hornbills, and as for your monkeys a cartload, tribe or troop!xx
That is so awesome and I love that you got a photo with his portrait and that your great grand father has a painted portrait! Your parents must be so proud!
Questions Hey Jess,
I am going to Rwanda this ummer and i would like to know the name of this information center you were talking about. Is it the IRDP?
Also, I am searching for an accomodation there since I am staying 5 weeks: where were you staying yourself?
I suppose it's a pretty universal feeling to not want other to know you receive free aid. Also interesting thing about people donating aid...I think they ran into the same issue with the earthquake in Haiti. People wanted to donate tangible items when all the people really needed was money.
The food sounds fabulous the way you describe it. The grasshoppers look just about as lovely as I'd imagine them to! I don't think I could get over the texture...seems like there'd be an awful lot of crunch for not a whole lot of substance...I guess it's good protein! ; )
And so the adventure continues! I love reading your posts. I had to look up bilharzia...whew, good thing you didn't swim in the water, it sounds horrendous! How'd you know? Are there signs posted or is it just assumed that all fresh water is contaminated?
