One of the girls i've been working with has been saying she wants to take us to this rock nearby for weeks and eventually said we'll go on Tuesday. Cool - a wee little trip will be great fun - but when I asked how we were going to get there she didn't know. Keen to go and aware that we wouldn't actually get there unless someone organised something I decided to arrange for us to be driven in the popemobile. We arranged a time to meet and pick everyone up and miraculously we left only ¾ hr late. In the end it wasn't actually that far but we did have to drive down a few footpaths up steep hills and cut a few corners off maize fields which didn't seem to bother anyone.

When we got there some girl walked us round the rock and pointed out bits of interest. The rock itself is a local shrine, thousands flocking to it once a year for sacrificing their animals and celebrating. It was quite cool a big rock in the middle of open plain for miles and miles - their own mini Uluru but we didn't get nearly as excited about it as the locals! It makes me realise just how lucky I have been travelling and visiting different places and all the amazing things I have had the chance to see.

I love it! I think that's what makes travel to/living in other cultures interesting...discovering the things they find important.
