Real travel! It's been great following your adventures; really, biking or walking is the best way to travel, being in nature and seeing the small villages and their people. Loved your summary! What a contrast this intimate part of your voyage was compared to the culture shock of the next, big city part, but I'm sure that will also be amazing, just very, very different!
faves of Brazil My very favorite was Paraty on the south coast--colonial, pedestrian small city with great beaches nearby and lots of day trips by cheap bus or bike to hiking spots. I would also have loved nearby Ihla Grande, but it was pouring, but beaches and hikes (always my faves). Second fave would be Ouro Preto and surrounding towns--gorgeous churches and colonial buildings on millions of hills (cobbled streets). Then beautiful, but big city Rio--beachces, hikes, culture and a 2-week international film fest that I stayed for. Of course, Iguasu, but you also really need to see that from the Argentine side too. I was only there for 6 weeks because it was so expensive, so I only saw 5 very worthwhile towns. Great parks and museums in Sao Paulo and train ride through mountains and jungle to the coast from Curitiba rounds out my trip. I'll be following to see where you two go. Ciao!
Un bon voyage! Great to have so many panoramas--it was like watching a film! Ah, Brazil--gorgeous beaches, too-sweet cakes, friendly people and those cute churches on hills--you bring back such lovely memories, though cobblestones are killers on bikes and feet. How fabulous that one of your last nights was illuminated by magical fireflies. Excellent adventure!
Better and best In your last blog, I thought you'd found the most perfect beach--no, finally it's here in Itacare! Really, jungle, beach, warm water and your dad. It doesn't get any better than that, except maybe if Becky were there too. Congratulations on finding a bit of perfection!
The ups and downs on the road of life Good luck/bad luck--isn't that like life! How great the bus driver drove you an extra distance in the rain and you found such gorgeous beaches! How not so great those very muddy roads and so many uphills. Glad to see that you two kept positive about how ridiculous life can be. It looks like a magical trip!
know you on the cover of Ielts speaking book It may sound a little bit crazy. I am from Fujian. One of my colleagues showed me a picture of you on Ielts book. You look so attractive. My colleague (Mac) said he knows you. I am an Ielts teacher too. I am planning to buy the book. I read your blog. I love travel too. I traveled to Europe alone by myself two years ago. Best wishes for your relationship and your life. I will keep an eye on your Blog.
Cobblestones, sand and perfection Glad you got those fabulous rewards of a perfect empty beach, warm water and a yummy dinner after all that work! What a great trip to do with your dad! Hope the next stretch is easier.
want to do a bike trip as well Your journey and your blog is making me want to do the same kind of bike trip a bit more every time I read your new blogs ;)
Nice beaches and wild camping are the best!
Nice beaches Hi Jeremy,
The pictures make me wanna go to the beach as well!!
Reading your story about your tent, reminded me of the wind in Mongolia: I really thought that my tent will not be strong enough for such wind! But let's say it's part of the adventure and now you will always remember that night for the great sky full of stars but also the wind and rain.
Looking forward to reading about the rest of your trip.
camping in Brazil was absolutely epic! I might make a whole blog entry on this part of the trip! Beaches in Bahia were very nice. Wait for my next blog on Boipeba or Itacare: splendid and pristine!
Nice place I hope i could visit a place such as this, if i will able to get a chance it will be so greatful.
Anyway what a great place.....nice picture too.
Hi,
My card got copied in Brazil in an ATM and someone stole me some cash in a private house in Sao Paulo. However, it's not why I didn't enjoy Brazil so much, it's more because I found it very touristy and in comparison with Namibia, where I was just before Brazil, people were not that friendly. But I am sure that Bahia and other even less touristy provinces are better.
Yes, we indeed have the same blog names almost ;) By the way, I am in China now and going to live there from next year on, so we will share even more ;)
Hey Natacha! More blogs coming up on the whole biking experience in Brazil VERY soon! ;-)
Jeremyaroundtheworld + Frenchgirlaroundtheworld... with those names we gotta share stories! ;-)
I am a 36-year old language teacher, currently working in Beijing. I was born in France but China has been my home for many years. I taught French and English in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, for 6 years. I never thought I would stay in China for such a long time but it’s been an amazing experience! Professionally speaking, teaching Chinese students is extremely rewarding. They are so hard-working and eager to learn new things. And then China… there aren’t enough words to describe this intricate (hence fascinating) country.
