Moving to Quanzhou I am going to move to Quanzhou in March and your pictures and comments about the mountains are showing me that I did the right choice there :) Hope you are doing well in Beijing, without too much smog...
Hey, TV star who sleeps in his car! Well, that was a wild adventure--those San Paolo roads sound scary--glad you made it back alive! Cities are always more stressful than the countryside, even if you're sleeping in your car because of a deluge. Love those rock formations--rather like ours in the American southwest. This is the best World Cup photo I've seen.
Powerful! Incredible force of this water! When I visited the Tri-Border area, there was so much more land and placid, lazy rivers compared to that in your panorama. Your photos say June, which is supposed to be the dry season, so this is really a climate reversal! Well-told story of you, Ricardo and the policeman--very funny. Glad you escaped, you border jumpers!
Dear Ali, Crazy sight it is! I can't wait to go back in a few years and take photos from the same spots. Where are you based, Ali? I was looking at your blog entries (incredible!) just a few days ago but realized you hadn't published on TB in a while.
A mighty roar! Speechless-I love the photo with your parents' hands over their mouths-so funny! How lucky you were able to see such a mighty spectacle, hear such a mighty thunder and not get caught in the downpour that produced it! Hard to imagine all those walkways under water--wow, really a unique experience! Love those cheeky coati, too, and best wishes getting back when it's 33 times less powerful.
Thanks for your comment, Tara! We were extremely lucky to witness this breathtaking roar. I read later on that 500 000 people were affected by the floods. How many died in Parana, Argentina or Paraguay? As we were driving to Foz, we got caught in a very serious downpour and the road disappeared for a a minute. It was so scary in our little rental car... Would have sucked on my bike!
INDEED Nothing like a surging frothing mass of water to remind that Mother Nature demands respect. INCREDIBLE indeed Jeremy. What a place to take your folks...karoomba!
Contrasts From peaceful, empty beaches to such a crazy city--your panoramas make me want to run away! Amazing that you drove in that traffic! I remember it took my bus way more than an hour to get through the massive traffic from the outskirts of Sampa with the favelas to the center. Good thing you had such wonderful friends to help you enjoy the city. I can hardly wait to see your photos from the fabulous falls.
Thanks for your message! Sampa is a crazy city but what matters is who you're with, not really where you are... I know, I live in Beijing!...
If you know Foz de Iguacu, you're gonna be surprised by my pics! We witnessed a rare phenomenon... Talk soon!
This is a great blog! Thanks for sharing your adventures in Brasil with your Dad! It sounded difficult, fun, and rewarding! That is what travel is all about.
Thanks Andrea! You're perfectly right. We had so much fun although (or because? - We both like physical challenges!) it was tough but the best things don't come easy, right? Thanks for your comment! More to come on Brazil...
I am a 36-year old language teacher, currently working in Beijing. I was born in France but China has been my home for many years. I taught French and English in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, for 6 years. I never thought I would stay in China for such a long time but it’s been an amazing experience! Professionally speaking, teaching Chinese students is extremely rewarding. They are so hard-working and eager to learn new things. And then China… there aren’t enough words to describe this intricate (hence fascinating) country.
“China is not to be liked or disliked: i... full info
