I am a middle school music teacher from Carpentersville, IL. I work at a great school with wonderful students. My love, other than music, is to travel.

After a quick detour in Evian (see video), we have made it Geneva, Switzerland. We have noticed that Geneva is very commercialized, as compared to Lyon but has beautiful lakefront. The city is small and intimate and very friendly. We have noticed people from Italy, France, Germany, and England. We will be home tomorrow, but had a great trip! See everyone soon.... read more

What a great day in LYON! Today, we started the day with a somber visit to the Deportation and Resistance Museum, a place that depicts the lives of the French people during WWII. We were reminded of the conditions many people lived under and the heroism they displayed. The United States was an ocean away, but France was in the heart of the fighting. Of 75,000 Jews deported from France, 2,500 returned. We are very lucky to live in the United States, and salute those people who endured hardships in Europe. Afterwards, we climbed up a hillside called "Vieux Lyon." Here, we saw two theaters dating back as far as 15BC. The Romans are responsible for building these theaters as a place for musical performance (excellent--see video). On the top of the hillside is a large ... read more

Today, after a near miss to be explained later, we made our way down to Lyon, France. Before we left for Lyon, we visited the Louvre in Paris and saw the Mona Lisa and many other famous paintings. Paris was great, but we are glad to get out of the city. Lyon is about two hours southeast of Paris. It sits on the Rhone River and about an hour west of the Alps. Lyon is much smaller than Paris, however, we are finding that there are a lot of benefits for this. Lyon has many famous restaurants, with availability, due to the fact that it is the birthplace of the "French cuisine." Tonight, we enjoyed a wonderful three course dinner at a little restaurant on a street housing only places serving food. Even though Lyon is ... read more

Bonne Thanksgiving! Welcome to day 2 of our French trip. Today we made trips to see Sacre Coeur (church), Montmarte, the Eiffle Tower, and Les Invalides (gold church where Napolean is burried). The best way to get around Paris is definately on the Metro. This Parisian subway system goes everywhere and is way more efficient than anything we have in the US. In addition, there have been many excellent street performers on the Metro, including instruments such as bass, accordion, clarinet, and euphonium. Check out this video to see more.... read more

Bonjour from Paris! Our flight arrived today at 9:40am, 2:40am Chicago time. We slept a little bit on the plane, but most of us have been up since 7:00am yesterday. Currently, we are sitting in a Parisian cafe called the Moulin A Caffe enjoying a seat and a hot (chaud) cup of coffee. We have already walked down the Champs Elysee (huge street with lots of shops) and been in Printemps and Galleries Lafayette (huge department stores). In addition, we spent some time at the Arc de Triomphe (see photo). The Arc stands in center of the Champs Elysee and was built to remember those soldiers killed in World War I. There is an eternal flame that always burns in the center of the Arc. We have noticed that it is easy to distinguish Americans from ... read more
