Thinking back to danau sentarum and port blair Hello Ralf,we met a few years ago in the andamans (port Blair..) i am following your blog since then and its always interresting, this entry is especially interesting cause I ve beento danau sentarum almost 20 years ago while crossing Kalimantan from Pontianak(up the Kapuas) to Samarinda(down the mahakam) whith a week of walking thru the jungle fRom one punan village to another very nice but exausting trip. In danau sentarum i still have the sound of the zikadas in my head a little like a rotating saw but verry nice.
Right now I am in madagascar which is fantastic place to travel, but a little bit lonesome if your frensh isnt to good. I have got one more week left than I have to start my trial(working) back in Germany.
So travel hati-hati and pelan-pelan like anytime.
Maybe its possible to meet you next winter in Indonesia be sure to visit Banda its a very nice place.
All the best. Jens
Kingfisher Sorry Ralf, but that Kingfisher didn't look like it was sleeping...its eyes were open!! Or do those birds sleep with their eyes open? Anyway looks like it was a lovely trip on the river, love the sleeping quarters!!
I guess it sleeps with its eyes open Because it was night and it certainly was sleeping. It didn't move a bit, despite using my flash and taken several pictures of it. Also the ranger said it was sleeping. By the way, your comment is on the Kingfisher photo, but the photo is of the equator monument...
Monkey business! There's a saying in Oz that if you pay for a monkey you get a monkey. It is a comment on those cutting costs get inferior service or expertise. But there are times that it is the best play. Sounds from your travels that when you are a smart monkey you get more than the banana! Happy times.
Got plenty of monkeys... But luckily not on the boat :) To be honest, I got a fair price. When I bargain, I don't bargain down to a price which is too low. I want it to be fair on everybody, on me and on them. She started out at a ridiculously high price, I bargained her down to a price which was normal. Believe me, I knew what costs were involved, she made a profit on me, just not an extortionate profit.
Great adventures! Hey Ralf, as always a very interesting description of your trips. Not the lonely planted kinda traveller, so there is always some new paths and wonders to discover when you're travelling.
Hope to see you again, preferably on one of your trips around the world! Gake care buddy!.
Olivia's Company? Hi Ralf..I was taking another gander at this blog as I'm headed back for a 4th time in August and I've made the boat trip the opposite direction, but avoiding Puerto Obaldia would be ideal this time if I can and also having a few days in the islands! Do you remember any info about Olivia's company? prices? etc etc. Thanks in advance!
Greg
Info on boat trip The company is called San Blas Adventures, this is their website with all the info you need: http://sanblasadventures.com/. The tour itself costs 350 dollars, but count on around 500 dollars in total to get all the way to Cartagena, including extras. Hope this helps. Cheers, Ralf
no better this is as good instructions as i can describe..may be better ways can be figured on your own :) the cactuses got to Canaries the same way as potatoes :) judging by areas they spread it was long time ago.
San Blas everybody here fascinated about columbia, i will read and see, but San Blas for me seems like paradise. wonder wonder, how is possible to find a sailing boat going there?
Sailing boats You can find sailing boats going to the San Blas islands and onwards to Colombia or Panama in either Panama City or Cartagena (Colombia). The hostels will advertise different sailing companies, but be careful, not all operators are good. There are captains out there that are terrible and the trip can be unsafe and horrible if you find yourself with the wrong company. So check before you decide, and ask other tourists for recommendations. Also if you just want to visit San Blas you can get boats to take you to one of the islands and stay on them for a while, the best place to arrange that would be in Panama City.
i managed it pretty good in Tenerife i feast on them. I manage pretty good to pick that tuna fruit up, i brake one of big spikes and with it brush/poke out those small dots with irritating soft spikes out, even blow them off the fruit when they loose, but still some on the fruit, then i manage to peal of skin and really, very few are on my skin nor tongue, which counts as none :) its quite tidy and slow effort, but worth it! Thanks, i didnt know fruits called Tuna :)
That's a family Lucky you. Your mum took you to Switzerland and your sister can arrange snow. My parents took me to the Gold Coast when I was 10. But do I complain? Maybe a tad.
Gorgeous wonderland! Those snow mountains are so magical! And how great to share it with your family--sounds like a perfect holiday! If your sister is living in Switzerland and their currency has just been elevated, it's a perfect time for her and her family to travel! Luckies!
Luxury life Yep, can't complain about my life... Great family, living in very nice locations, what more can one ask for! Thanks for the comment as always!
