Wow! Firstly I must say that Zimbawe is a beautiful country with equally beautiful people in it. For the purpose of this blog I will simply describe what was done, opinions I will keep to myself until next time... Having joined up with the overland group in Jo'burg with Africa travel Company we jumped onto the truck and headed to Kruger Park. The truck itself was brilliant, although not the most comfy of things. It had everything you needed from tents to cooking equipment. Enough for 30 people. The idea of the trip being you helped with everything down to the cooking and truck cleaning. Though at times it did feel like you were back at school on some sort of weird adult school trip. I digress... Kruger. Oh yes, I am indeed wildlife safari guru. ... read more

So.... to fill you in x. The lion cubs were awesome, was able to spend at least half an hour in the enclosure with them, playing with them and stroking them. Thought they were the cutest things ever, until I found out that they had ticks. Needless to say those of you who really know me well can easily envisage the following few nights in which constant tick checks were managed including pulling what i believe now to be a mole out with tweasers!!!! Oh well best to be safe than sorry! After leaving Port Elizabeth after staying there much longer than intended we headed East to Durban x . Due to the alteration of time spent in PE it meant we had to do the 15 hour bus journey all the way to Durban in ... read more

So I left you all on way to Stellenbosch....a very very different South Africa from the one seen in Cape Town. It is a university town and therefore predominately a white town. We arrived after our second journey by train, an interesting one considering we thought we would know better than South African railway and decided instead of waiting for an hour for the next straight train, we would venture forward and just change when we thought.... an hour and a half later, having being escorted by a lovely railway worker away from a very "dangerous" station and jumping into a carriage of armed guards we arrived at our hostel to find the door kicked in!!! Not good start!? Changed our hostel to one which can only be descrbed as something out of a horror film ... read more

Africa » South Africa » Western Cape » Cape Town September 20th 2007

It is actually very hard to describe South Africa, or maybe more specifically Cape Town. As we drove into the city, you cannot help but notice the vast townships/slums that people are living in. This was then completely contradicted by the various beauty spots of camps bay and the waterfront, fronted by shops selling diamonds and fur. It has been a completely manic first 5 days. I have gained a much better grasp and understanding of the apartheid and slave trade, visiting the tourist attractions of the Slave lodge and the city's castle. It has been a real eyeopener into the diverse culture of cape town, simply walking around the shops and the market. I also fell in love with a little marker seller, who after my first attempt at haggling, sold me a picture worth ... read more
