EUU halloween Hi Hilary. Many members of UUFP made the journey to Alsace for the fall retreat. We had nearly 140 people and it was a great success. Morales was very good and the site was terrific. The talent show was good and the kids did a wonderful haunted house for us on Saturday evening. I am sure we will go back again even if it is far from Paris (about 500km). I have just done the finances and we had a big surplus. Many stayed on for an extra day because the day after was 1 November and so the 31st in the afternoon we drove to Gunsbach to see the Albert Schweitzer home/museum. Did you know he was a fairly close relative of Sartre's? And that Rachel carson dedicated at least the German version of Silent Spring to him? See you soon. Hugs, Peter
Christmas in Paris In answer to Bernard's question, I won't be back for Eric's concert in Paris but am planning to see the one he's doing in San Francisco at the end of November. Hope to see you when I'm back in Paris for the holidays. Bises, Hilary
reply from a uufp friend You are indeed very busy Hilary. I am sure you are enjoying life to the fullest. Your granddaughter looks wonderful. Perhaps a future member of the fellowship? :-) We are all gearing up for the retreat in Alsace at the end of the month. It should be great: we have nearly 140 people signed up. My father died in July at nearly 91 but it was fairly quick and painless. Now sadly our best friend has been diagnosed with terminal cancer in London. And I am starting to have signs of age-related weaknesses. Lucky to have Claire to rescue me when I need it. Hugs, Peter
Thanks for the news Hilary...busy busy busy as usual, but you are right to take advantage of retirement! Sorry to have missed you when you were in Paris - we were working on our house extention, which has been almost finished for 2 months now (can you hear my teeth grinding?!) but we have a beautiful new bathroom which (almost) makes up for no vacation this year...
bises, Martha
I loved your photos Your grandchild is a cutie. It was fun seeing the Bay Area Tourist photos. You do have a busy schedule--wore me out reading it. See you next week
I am in oakland too Hi Hillary, lives can take so many paths. I am in Oakland, exchanging my property in Georgetown for a property in California. I leave for Wash.d.c. on Oct 18th. I am unable to return to France as I have some problems with walking and climbing. Will go to Buenos Aires for medical tourism.

keep the emails coming Hilary,
Good to hear about your numerous activities. Your time is filled with interesting activities. You are one busy lady!!! What you didn't mention is your social life. Is Tom Mr. Wonderful these days??
Any chance that you'll be in Chicago as you move from place to place?
Keep me in the loop.
Nothing much new here. My pleasure at the moment is in what my grandchildren are doing, ie: grad school at the U of Michigan (Peter) and Teach America (Leslie) and studying electrical engineering (Ariel) at the Hebrew Univ. The world is their oyster.
Stay well and happy.
Best,
Betty
your Shanghai trip so glad to read your report from shanghai. was thinking of going but with crowds I think I won't. am going back to Japan with Margot Paul and that will be enough.
But, I'm curious to know what happened to the famiies of the chidren in the orphanage. Why are they orphans??
love, Suzy
back to Paris? Hilary,
Ulla Rosenqvist was just visiting me and sends best regards.
You have certainly seen the world! When will you be back in
the US? What was it like not having any home base and have been
wondering what you do with clothes you need for so many different
climates and activities. Can you travel with one suitcase for everything?
bon voyage again,
wow Glad to hear you're coming back to this side of the pond. Following you and your travels has been fun. I can't wait for the day we will be able to do the same...
Get in touch once you're back.
Claire
Welcome back Hilary! Hope to see you before I head over the pond. It's been awhile and I so look fwd to hearing about your impressions, etc - ie: in a cafe bine sur!
Thank you for your wonderful thoughts and observations. I've travelled with you!

Bon voyage Dear Hilary - Thanks for your blogs over the past year. I've really enjoyed reading your impressions of the Bay area plus assorted trips, such as your return to Shanghai. "Smiling" was one of my favourites, especially as I read it while we were spending a month post-Olympics in Australia visiting one of our sons who is studying at the U of Queensland in Brisbane. The folks Down Under are a lot like Parisians. They don;t walk around with smiles on their faces but light up when you engage them with a simple "good morning" or offer small courtesies. Too right, mate! Enjoy the joys of grandparenthood. Best regards also to Marlo and Marc,
