Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Denpasar July 8th 2017

So the journey back to Bangkok all went smoothly and we were chowing down on pad Thai again in no time at all. Early start for us at 3am to get over to Bali! We started off our time here in a place called Balangan, which is on the southern most tip of Bali and is also surfers paradise. We wasted no time in walking down to the beach to enjoy sunset and a few beers whilst watching/admiring the surfers- purely for the skill of course!! Back at the room Jo was convinced she saw a frog behind the wardrobe- not believing her at first, I carried on with my business. Then came the ribbit-ribbit noise from the wardrobe. We managed to Usher our slimy friend outside before turning in For the night. A few minuets ... read more

Asia » Cambodia » South » Phnom Penh June 27th 2017

Our journey to Cambodia started off with two flights- a quick hop over to Bangkok and then a fair wait before a connection to Phnom Penh. The first leg of the journey went smoothly and we based ourselves on the floor in departures near our gate for the 4 hour wait. We caught up on Netflix, had a coffee, did some journal catch up, adult colouring and had a game of uno! Yea we are well versed in keeping ourselves occupied for long periods of time!! The reason I tell you this is because whilst playing uno the Chinese lack of awareness struck again! First of all this woman was not so subtly staring at us, we continued with our game- she edged closer, we continue- she's crouched down behind Jo staring at her cards and ... read more

Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang Mai June 21st 2017

We arrived in Koh Lanta after a rather upsetting boat trip. Once on the boat tour agents were trying to get you to buy their transfer from the port to your hotel. This was fine except 'No' was not an acceptable answer, despite various diversion tactics. It got so bad, we actually witnessed a pair of French girls being racially abused and heard others on the boat experiencing the same. To say it upset us is an understatement. This was such a shame as the Thai people in general have been lovely and friendly! Still once on Koh Lanta we escaped and got our own tuk tuk to our hotel. This was such a welcome change from the other hole we stayed in the night before on Phi Phi. We were the only guests at this ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Tao June 17th 2017

So after Tom and Andrea left us, we were back on a boat again in no time heading back to Koh Tao. This time round there was no time for beach hopping, it was strictly PADI! The first night we had homework to do, before even putting our feet in the water. The next few days we spent in and out of the water and in the classroom qualifying for our open water PADI! Our group consisted of six girls, four of us were physio's (poor jo!), and Maria the crazy Italian! We nicknamed ourselves 'Alex's angels' as a tribute to our instructor. On the last night we had all agreed to meet up on the bar crawl in town. So as the older ladies we went back for a nap and then a quick shower ... read more

Asia » Thailand » Central Thailand » Bangkok June 3rd 2017

The journey to Thailand started fantastically! We boarded the Maglev- for those less traveled or non train enthusiasts, it's the worlds fastest train- cruising at a mere 300km/hr and got us to the airport in great time. We were a bit anxious about our flights as they were Malaysian airlines but that was quickly put to rest, after our first flight to Kuala Lumpur went swimmingly......or so we thought! It was a mad dash to the inter rail at KL (it's a huge huge airport), 2x rides back and forth-because we didn't know if we should get off the first time, and another dash to the gate for our connection. The flight from KL to Bangkok was only meant to take an hour- it took us 6!!! Half way through our flight we were in the ... read more

Asia » China » Beijing » Great Wall of China May 27th 2017

Arrived in China later than expected, so had to hot foot it to our hotel to meet our tour group! We followed all the instructions given to us on how to get from the airport to the hotel via taxi, but somehow must have done something wrong. So much so we ended up in a 16 seater minibus- to ourselves!!! The giggles soon dissipated due to the crazy nature of the taxi drivers driving and other Chinese road users! Now we have had some crazy taxis before but I feel this may have taken the biscuit. But still we arrived checked in, met the group and had dinner. The next day it was up early for a guided tour of Tiananmen Square, the forbidden city and the dream tower! This day was entertaining for a few ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Hong Kong Island » Wan Chai May 18th 2017

Ni hao from Hong Kong. We landed late evening and made our way to our hostel and we're greeted by the lovely Eleanor. A quick check in and dump of the bags and we were in a bar in time for happy hour!! Result. The G and T's were flowing as we had a good catch up. Eleanor had to leave us to catch her flight and we decided it was prob best to go to bed (we had been up since 4am!) The next morning we were up really early to get to the Chinese passport office to try and get our visas. If you didn't already know, we had an absolute nightmare in London trying to get them and gave up in the end. Numerous people had assured us we could get them (with ... read more

Oceania » Fiji » Yasawa Islands » Nanuya Island May 16th 2017

Bula bula from Fiji- from start to finish this place has been amazing. We arrived in the early hours of the morning to be welcomed not only by the heat but also by a band playing traditional Fijian music. So to say it made us smile is an understatement! A few hours later we were lying on the beach, cocktail in hand, having had a pedicure and massage. The grand total for the above- less than £25!!! We could tell the Fijian lifestyle was going to suit us. In the evening we experienced Fijian Kava (no not cava- definitely NOT cava) which is widely drank out here like alcohol. After observing the local customs we tried it and both came to the unfortunate conclusion it tasted like muddy water!! I think we will stick to beers. ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie Beach May 8th 2017

After a 12 hour bus ride to Arlie beach, the sight of Ali waiting to collect us was a welcome one! We wasted no time and grabbed food before heading out of town to some waterfalls for a swim and a good catch up! Ali showed us around and we ended up having a beer and a game of pool at a local bar! The banter and insults were flying, the sun was shining- what more could you want? Later that evening we were off on our boat tour around the Whitsundays. Our boat was nice and we had our own cabin between the three of us! To say space was tight was an understatement, but it made for good fun! Day 1 we woke up at sea and headed off for white haven beach (the ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Fraser Island May 1st 2017

We arrived in Brisbane late evening so spent it in the only place that made sense- the bar! It was student night so drinks were cheap and the music cheesy! The next day it was up and at them early to catch the bus over to the koala sanctuary. It was incredible! There were hundreds of koalas chilling out in the eucalyptus trees and you could get really close for photos. There was also other native wildlife on show such as the dingos, kangaroos, platypus and lots of bats and birds! We hand fed the kangaroos, which blew my mind. I didn't think they would be that tame and we would be able to get that close. I stayed a good clear distance from the emu though, it looked like it had its eye on us ... read more
