The magical mystery tour

Asia » Vietnam » South Central Coast » Quảng Nam » Hoi An April 13th 2011

Long time since last update now, and we’ve come a long way since Hanoi. Hanoi had brought many pleasures and displeasures, and it was now time to see the rest of Vietnam. In fact we only had 15 days there, and 5 of them were used in Hanoi. We booked another flight ticket to Da Nang, which was almost as cheap as a good buss, but way faster. The morning started off with a good breakfast at the Mamay Backpacker Hostel, were we had stayed. They helped us get to the airport for a fair price, and the car was roomy and comfortable. We checked in at the airport and went in to the terminal, which is rather small and we got the announcement that the plane is delayed. So we waited and ate some of ... read more

Hi again! Hanoi is crazy, somewhat anarchistic! It is a big city, but smaller buildings wich makes it more easy to get around. We live at the Hanoi Backpacker Hostel, wich is a big modern hostel with great facilities. Loads of backpackers from around the world. We have used our time here to see the city, visit the markets and the Kiem lake. It is quite a beutiful city with loads to offer. Just exchanging traveltips, pictures and experiences. We wanted to take the trip to the hallong bay, but the weather wasn't that good. The hostel will help you to plan trips to halong bay and the other places around the area. We have bought another planeticket to Da Nang in the morning, the tickets are rather cheap so we decided we didnt wanted to ... read more

Asia » China » Guangxi » Nanning February 17th 2011

Hi again!! I finaly sat down to actualy write some of the entries now. So There will be a few! We arrived in Nanning by plane, it was a rather small airport 40 minutes outside the city. We went outside to find a bus or taxi. Again we had som trouble commuicating with the locals. But we met a guy who translated for us and got a cab which drove us in to the city and pointed frantictly in through some trees. We searched the area for half an hour until we met someone who actualy knew where the hostel was. The Nanning City Hoste is more a guesthouse, realy cool. It is owned by an american called Weston, who is very helpfull and a cool guy. It is a "small" town. Only about 2 million. ... read more

Asia » China » Shanghai February 10th 2011

Hi again! We have spent 5 days in shanghai, wich is a bit larger than Beijing, but after my taste much better! Among the things Shanghai can offer is fantastic arcitecture, good food and an overall good atmosphere. The Mingtown Hiker Youth Hostel where we are staying is very relaxing, it is very easy to get to know new people. We got to know an American and a Brazilian wich we have spent most of our days with. The American could speak Mandarin wich was very handy for us! Even though Shanghai is a bit more western and more speak english, it was far from everybody we could communicate with, if it werent for our "translator". The hostel is located close to the Nanjing road (the main shopping street) and the Bund wich has some amazing ... read more

Ni Hao and Gung Hey Fat Choy! Or Hello and happy new years to those of you who don't speak chinese! We have now spent our last 3 days in Sanlitun youth hostel here in Beijing. It's a HUUUGE city and a LOT of people. The hostel is awsome, lot of backpackers from all over the world. It's realy easy to get to know the people here, and the staff which differs from the rest of the city, speak english! We have walked on the great wall, seen the forbidden city, visited the Beijing Zoo and celebrated Chinese new years! It has sounded like a urban war for 2 days now. The sound of firecrackers and fireworks was fun in the beginning but a little tirering when you wanted to sleep. The great wall was an ... read more

This will be my first entry to the travelblog 1. day of our magical mystery tour. Me (Aksel) and J(jørgen) will be traveling through China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia over a period of about 5 months. We landed in Amsterdam late sunday evening, both affected by a heavy saturday. Going through the corridors of Schippol we found our self hungering for a steak and a cold heineken. After locking up our backpacks and figguring out the trainsystems, we arrived at "Amsterdam Centraaaal". We didn't have to walk more then 5 minutes before finding a decent steakhouse. After a delicious meal we went for a strole around the city center, seeing a lot of beutiful old houses and canals. After the "sightseeing we were going back to the airport to for some sleep, ... read more
