Monday. Today is our last day on the rv17, the area we are passing through is really beautiful, we both thinks it's more so than the first part, which the guide book reckons is the most beautiful. The road is passing through lush green valleys with forested hillsides leading up to stoney mountains, wide rivers and fjords below. It feels very alpine. The last ferry on the route was running late, we pulled up behind some bikers, one couple French and the other Russian, Les joined in conversation with them, there seemed to be a bit of a competition as to who had travelled the most distance. The French guy was a bit of a comedian and showed Les around his bike and sidecar, pointing to different bags and lockers calling them kitchen, bedroom etc. They ... read more

Wednesday. It's been very cold overnight, the price paid for sunny days! We're off on our puffin watching trip today. At the reception we paid the fee and given instructions to put on the warm waterproof suits provided, which made me feel very hot over the top of all the layers I'm already wearing. On top of the suit we wore self inflating buoyancy aids. After the safety briefing we walked to the inflatable RIB. There are 20 people in total and two RIBS, 10 on each. We sat astride the seats, similar to riding a horse. The petrol engine smelt a bit fumey as it ticked over, but once we were moving out of the harbour the fumes were blown away by the breeze. As soon as we were in open water the tour guide ... read more

Saturday The sun is shining! After doing the regular checks on Dream Catcher Les thinks that we have a slow puncture, we will have to keep a check on it. I washed our walking clothes and hung them inside the back, with the heater on they will dry, but it looks like 'Widow Twanky's laundry'. Oh no it doesn't! Oh yes it does! We're on the road heading to Tromso, we've decided to take a couple of ferries to cut out some miles on roads that we drove up here on. We stopped to fill with water and empty the waste, Les checked the tyre, it was down again! He put more air into it.The scenery looks very green and lush after the barren view of the last few days every so often there are waterfalls ... read more

Tuesday Another day on the road today. There are still sleet showers and the wind is still very cold. As we leave the fjords behind and climb up higher the mountains are looking splendid, what is it about snow topped mountains? We find them captivating. We pulled over a couple of times to take photos. At one wonderful view point we stopped where there was a British camper, the chap was taking photos whilst his passenger who looked rather glamorous sat in the warm cab. Les talked to him whilst I took photos, there were a couple of eagles flying in front of one of the mountains, unfortunately they had soared too high to get their photos. The British chap was on his way back from North Cape, having driven up through Sweden and Finland. It's ... read more

Friday What a change in the weather today, cold wet with low cloud! We pottered about in Dream Catcher catching up on a few little jobs and then set off to explore the rest of the island. There isn't any point in walking any trails as all the hikes climb up into the low cloud as Vaeroy is mostly a mountain with three small villages in grassy bays.We explored a couple of tracks leading to the sea and found a place where we could watch some of the local birds, there are pairs of eider ducks paddling around, it's always seems unfair with ducks that the males have such beautiful feathers and the females are so drab. There's a black guillemot, the first we've seen, it's smaller than I expected! Through the spotting scope Les found ... read more

Sunday We all slept in this morning! After breakfast we packed our things back into Dream Catcher, it's sad to be leaving, but we still have a lot of travelling to do. Nadya made sure that we have plenty of places to visit on our itinerary for our next stop, the Lofoten Islands. Les gave Anton a guided tour of the Land Rover before we left to catch the 1.00 pm ferry from Bodo to Moskenes. The crossing is almost 4 hours. Whilst waiting to board I made a packed lunch and a flask of coffee to take onboard. I have to admit that once we had eaten our, we pretty much slept for most of the crossing, we did notice the ferry rocking quite a bit as we passed through Moskstraumen, the worlds strongest sea ... read more

Tuesday Lots of miles to cover today! With a couple of stop offs planned, the first one is the 17 metre high Laksforen water fall, it looks spectacular in full flow from the snow melt. We continue winding along the E6 which seems to have endless road works, there are workmen cutting trees down, blasting, breaking up, crushing and laying stone to make the new road, there are temporary speed limits that seem to change every few yards, we're just pleased that the road is quiet. By lunchtime we arrived at Mosjoen, this town has an historic street with over 100 listed buildings, but before we take a look, we shopped for food, a road map with more detail on it than the one we're using and just by chance the government run alcohol shop is ... read more

Saturday It's been quite cold overnight, the thermometer is only reading 7C, so we put the heating on, which means that we get a bit longer in bed whilst things warm up.After breakfast we head back to Roros museum, we start by visiting the exhibits, there are a lot of scale working models of the local copper mine through the different ages. There is also an interesting exhibition of local clothing through different times. Because of the mine, the local people were relatively better off than elsewhere, as the wages paid were good, this was reflected in their outfits. At 11 we joined Marcus, our guide, who is a flamboyant type of chap, he has a waxed moustache and for a reason I can't imagine he was wearing a leather dog collar complete with a red ... read more

Tuesday Back On The Road.We set out a little later than usual as it took us a while to make a plan for the day. We decided to head for Lillehammer which is situated at the end of lake Mjosa. Along the way we passed over the forested hills on a fairly narrow road that wound its way to the top, on the way down the other side we met some road works, we had to wait for a while until a convoy of vehicles came the other way, led by a convoy car. The car turned around and led us down the mountain, past the workforce who were laying new Tarmac. We were surprised how many of the workers were women. We found a Lay-by to have a coffee break, the sun is really hot today, ... read more

Friday. We started the day with a walk in the forest before heading back into Hertishals. The sun is shining again after last nights showers. At the service station just outside the town there are facilities for disposing of waste and filling with water, that done we head to the dock and join the row of campers to get on the ferry. The ferry is big blue and white ship and very new looking. After a while we board the ship,it looks like it's not going to be too busy. Logan has to stay in the vehicle for the journey, we go upstairs and find a place to sit and have our packed lunch, before we've eaten it were on our way. The journey takes three and three quarter hours, we wandered around the ship and ... read more
