Well, it's 10:15am Monday morning here. We are 5 hours ahead of your time. You guys are sleeping right now. Took pictures of boats on shore with the boys pulling in the nets. Fish is abundant and is their main source of protein. Everything is served with fish. Goat is the main meat. Last night I had groundnut soup (peanut soup), akrokro beans (black eye beans), paw paw ( a type of plaintain) and fish. This morning I will have a breakfast dish called fufu and kente ko - have to tell you what that means later. Water, water, I drink all day and sweat all day. I notice that I don't have to go to the bathroom during the day. All the water I drink comes out as sweat. It is the dry season here ... read more

It's Sunday night in Accra and I leave tomorrow night at 11pm for London. It has been an amazing journey. Since it is the last night, I decided to pay a little more for a chalet on the beachfront. Took some amazing pictures of the beach and what a perfect way to end this trip. There is a lot of horse riding on the beach the locals jump into the water with all of their clothes on - no need for swimsuits here. Today I visited more museums, walked along the beach and of course continued to talk to everyone. Every stop is a ten minute conversation with a friendly ghanaian who is glad to see an african american and knows someone in either new york or DC. When I say I am coming back in ... read more

I left Kumasi yesterday, home of the asante people in the middle of Ghana and now I am back on the on coast in Acrra, the capital. So, you know I went to the palace of the asante King to see if he would give me a naming ceromony. However, he only grants audiences to the common people on Sunday. I did meet, however, a lesser chief, from one of the local villages, and I talked to him for awhile. Finally, with dignity and respect, he gave me my name - ready? My name is now Nana Kofi David Prempreh. That's it! As I left, I reminded him that I will be looking for full Ghana citizenship asap. The trip from Kumasi to Accra usually takes 5 hours by bus. However, it took 9 hours - ... read more

Well, today means my trip is halfway over. My cell phone is dead, so everyone will have to contact me on this website. I am now in Kumasi, home of the Ashanti. Today, I visited the market, the cultural museum and the sword in the ground. There is a sword, stuck in the ground from the 16th century. It came from heaven from the Ashanti God. No one can pull it out. It's stuck. Legend has it that if anyone succeeds, that the Ashanti chief and people will lose their power and their kingdom. Marida, I thought I saw Byron for the third time. He was in Accra, then Cape Coast and now Kumasi. Are you sure he is in the US? On the bus to Kumasi, I sat behind a bus driver who has that ... read more

Kofi reporting......... I met a Japanese man, Yamada, and his tour guide, Kofi Bismarck, at the Mighty Victory Hotel in Cape Coast who traveled with me yesterday. I talked to the owners, who are from Oklahoma - they shared lots of stories about living in Ghana. Yesterday, Yamada, Bismarck and I visited the Kakum National Park, and explored the rain forest. They have a canopy walkway and was able to see many animals, though no lions, elephants, etc. Then, we went to Elimina to visit the St. George Castle. Remember the feeling the emotion we had when Obama won? Well, I can not tell you the emotion, rage, sorrow, anguish, happiness coming full circle, hearing the tour guide explaining the history, the male and female prisons, the governor of the slave castle picking different females every ... read more

Oh well, I tried. Maybe there is a better internet cafe in Cape Coast. Since I still have 31 minutes left on this computer, I'll ramble on for a while. British Airways from DC to London. 7 hour trip and they fed us 3 times - Brittish Airways rocks! My layover in London Heathrow Airport was 4 hours. There was a starbucks there, and, as I looked out the window, I saw avis, hertz and a Holiday Inn. America rocks! Took shuttle bus from one terminal to next - terrified watching bus driving on wrong side of road - it will take time to get use to that. Flight from London was nice - over France and Spain for a few hours - got emotional when I saw the mediterrean sea - and even more so ... read more

Today is Sunday! Beautiful journey so far. Arrived late Friday night and felt the heat as I got off the plane. Met a guy who lives in Kumasi and he offered me a place to stay when I arrive in Kumasi later in the week. Everyone friendly here. I notice that no one smokes or wears baseball caps - I must stick out like a sore thumb. Food is good - not too different than our southern food - though I am careful not to ask what kind of meat until after I eat. If photos are uploaded, then you will see pictures of the capital. Pictures from the airplane show flight from London to Ghana and include Pyrennes mountains separating France from Spain, Barcelona, Spain; Mediterranean Sea, then the desert in Africa. For you google ... read more
