52 year old living and working in Buckinghamshire, England. Enjoy holidaying in Corfu. Was becoming a bit of a couch potato so booked to walk the Corfu Trail; not just to see the whole Island inside out but as motivation to take regular exercise and eat sensibly. I'm soon to depart and wish to share my journey and hopefully raise some money for Corfu Donkey Rescue.

The auction is now closed......................and the final bid of £66 was made by David Penfold. Thank you so much and to all those who also bid for Shrek. Shrek and his photos will soon be off to a new home with tales to tell of his travels. David while you await his arrival there is a nice picture of him in The Sun today in the football pull out! He too has World Cup fever. It is great that the blog and Shrek travelling Corfu has raised much needed funds for Corfu Donkey Rescue. ... read more

And so the day has arrived when I have to head home. All packed I wait outside the Hotel for Anna. There is a hive of activity as people are heading to work and there is Police activity in the area; apparently due to a high profile case at the nearby Court. Mind you the police weren't that interested in the public; I saw a policeman on his motorbike riding down the road almost two abreast with a man on his scooter who wasn't wearing a crash helmet (or even carrying one) and no action was taken or even a word said or finger pointed. It does just show that if they dont like laws they just ignore them and I guess the smoking ban will go the same way. Anna arrives and we set off ... read more

Today I wake to a nice sunny day and take a leisurely breakfast sat on the balcony watching lizards climbing up the trunks of the cypress trees nearby. All is quiet; the door opens and the cleaners come in...............see me and say sorry. I tell them I'm leaving at 10am and finish my breakfast; do the washing up and then complete my packing. I decide to wait for Chris at the top of the road and walk up their early and sit on the wall. There are many butterflies here so I watch them and take a few photos. Chris arrives, punctual as ever and we are soon on our way to Corfu Town. We chat; he asks about my foot and the walk and I tell him about getting lost but missing them and their ... read more

What a way to find out my decision to walk yesterday was the correct one...............I am woken just after 5am by the mother of all thunderstorms which seems to be directly overhead. The lights went out, the windows and shutters all rattled as the thunderclaps deafened me. The rain was very heavy and the lightening lit up the sky behind so in fact the worst of the storm was not over Kalami but the northern slopes of Pantokrator (I later found out that Acharavi and north had a power cut for several hours following the storm). Well it chucked it down until gone 8 am and I sat having breakfast on the balcony watching the rain turn the olive tree from silver grey to dark green. I think had I been walking today I would have ... read more

And a new bid has come in at £50. Thank you so much. It seems Shrek has built up a fan club and I'm sure whoever finally secures him will enjoy him and his photos. I also believe that if you take him to Corfu when you holiday and visit the villages and kefenions mentioned in my blog people will remember him and talk with you; and also at the tavernas and accommodations. Possibly also in Corfu Town at the snack bar near the Konstantopoulis Hotel where Maria the waitress liked him and maybe also at the Liston Bar (under the canvas by the green) where we relaxed people watching. He did not go on the night out to Sidari though! Auction closes 8am Saturday 26th June 2010.... read more

I have today received a new bid of £45 for Shrek. This is now in pole position but the auction remains open until 8 am on Saurday the 26th June 2010. Remember if successful you will pay the donation directly to Corfu Donkey Rescue. I will then send you Shrek with his feathers and photos of him on the Trail; some seen in the blog and some exclusive. The cost of the photos and postage will be covered by me so that all the winning bid goes to the benefit of the Donkeys.... read more

The ceilings in my appartment were high and I could see a couple of mozzies but not reach them. I sprayed the room, I put repellant on myself and went to bed wanting a good nights sleep. In the early hours I could hear the mozzies attacking me so I grabbed my spray and decided to deal with them and then went back to sleep. When I awoke just after 6 I felt a problem with my eye and so I went into the bathroom.................one eyelid was swollen and the eye half closed. Problem this and I didn't know what had caused it............was it a bite; would the eye close more as the day wore on. Immediately I decided I had to walk today to the end of the Trail, just in case the eye got ... read more
