And again we started the day off with a bike ride. This time we took a little different route heading into Edgartown and looping back around to the State Forest along Barnes Road. We headed up island to Aquinnah where Gay Head cliffs is located. The boys had fun jumping the waves on Gay Head beach. There was a warning for Portugeuse Man of War (a poisonous jellifish) - kind of freaky. And a big hunk of wood came ashore out of nowhere. After the beach we got a few pictures of the cliffs and the lighthouse. No sunset tonight unfortunately because the clouds and some rain swooped in. ... read more

Another 15 mile bike ride this morning then off to some touring of the island. We visited the Field Gallery - always enjoy taking pictures with the field sculptures. Then off to the Glass Works to see blowing of a great vase. Drew had the chance to throw some pottery at Chilmark Pottery. And we capped off the day with sailing on Edgartown Harbor watching a beautiful sunset.... read more

Kayaking at the Felix Neck Nature Sanctuary was amazing. Saw many varieties of crabs and critters, cormorantes, a blue heron, and lots of mussels clinging to the salt marsh shore line. Headed off to Menemsha to hang at the beach for the rest of the day and enjoy an amazing sunset.... read more

Started off with another bike ride. Ended up being about 15 miles because we got lost in the forest (stop laughing). We decided to check out the Cape Pogue lighthouse on Chappaquidik Island. Takes a ferry ride from Edgartown and then an over sand vehicle ride to see this peaceful sight. We could see about 5 miles from on top - great views. Spent some time in Edgartown: great seafood dinner and then of course ice cream again. It was so clear we decided to stop at South Beach to see the sunset. Just beautiful.... read more

We settled in today starting with a 10 mile bike ride. Sean and Mary Ann shared a tandem bike while Dean and Drew rode hybrids. We headed out to South Beach at Katama and the boys enjoyed time "swimming" into the waves and battling the seaweed. Of course we had to go into town to have ice cream at Mad Martha's and then buy some fudge at Murdichs. We tried to catch the sunset at Menemsha Harbor but the clouds got in the way. Still a beautiful peaceful sight.... read more

We headed north today to Denver. On the way we passed Castle Rock and saw a freight train along the way. Our friends, The Reilly's, were kind enough to have us over and the boys swam in their pool and enjoyed their hot tub. We all went to the Colorado Rockies game and met up with Nan and her sons - its been a long time since we've seen everyone and it was great to catch up and enjoy the game together.... read more

We took the last scenic train of our trip today up to the top of Pikes Peak. The grade on this railroad can reach 25% and needs cogs to make that work (you'll need to look that up). This is the longest incline in the world and the trains used are from Switzerland. As you climb to 14,115 feet you can feel the temperature getting colder along the way. Today the sun was out and the temperature at the top did not feel bad at all. We had some of the famous Pikes Peak donuts at the top and stopped to have our picture taken. The summit is also where a school teacher found her inspiration to write America the Beautiful - there was a tourist that brought his trumpet to the top and played this ... read more
