Those Pesky Cascades Coincidentally, just last year I was scoping out that very same trip from Victoria to Hood River for a possible bicycle ride. I too wanted to avoid freeways and hills and I learned that there is no such route, just one big Interstate and lots of ventures into the foothills. Yesterday's news headlines had cars piled up in snow on the Coquihalla so you were wise to seek out the valley route. Eventually though, all those valleys, including the big ones like the Columbia will yield to the Rockies. My fingers are crossed for you.
Keep the updates coming.

You are right, this is an adventure, and you don\'t have to please anyone but yourselves. Your blogs are fantastic Helen - it is comforting to know that you are willing to change your plans and adapt to the problems of the weather and the terrain. When it gets too hot, head for the coast, the Redwoods, and the cool mountain passes There is so much to see in the Pacific North West. The time is yours, and every day can be a surprise. How appreciate being in touch! Mum
Smooth Riding Look like you're off with a good start. We wish you smooth riding, sunshine, happy times and lots of laughter. Just one more of life's great experiences for the two of you. You're incredible!! We'll be with you all the way.
Cheers! R & B

A land of vast distances Your blog
page displays a little window at the bottom right entitled 'Canada' and that starts with the words "A land of vast distances...' Too funny!
I hope you have a GPS to chart your way so we on our couches can 'travel along' with you. Keep the posts coming and give a wave to the bicyclists you encounter along the way.
Safe travels...

One km at a time. This is like opening a book where the first page grabs you and you can hardly wait to turn the page. The greatest thing about the two of you is that you bring your dreams to reality. I pray that streams of sunshine lead your way.
