I'm glad you enjoy the solo travel life. I've been on tours alone with a captive audience of potential friends. Just enough to be alone or to be together with people. But I've never done what you're doing , except once for a week in Paris by myself after a tour. It sounds like you've got a nice combination of opportunities with friends coming in and visiting friends and time Solo in between. I am so jealous you're going to the Algarve ! I so love it there ! You've got a great agenda upcoming. Enjoy! And thanks for sharing.
What great photos! I feel like I walked the grounds with you. So tell me, are you good doing this journey alone? How long will you be kitty sitting? Where to after this?
Solo There’s a big difference between being alone and traveling solo... I love the latter, because of all the interesting people I see and meet, who I would otherwise miss, passing by talking to a companion....
That said, I do have an East Coast friend, Fae coming to stay for a few weeks. She’s joining me Sep 25, For the final few days of my pet sitting, and we’ll rent a car and head north to North Yorkshire coast, Scotland and the Lake District. Then we’ve booked a train trip to Paris, and might return to Cotswolds or even Wales before she returns home. I’ll continue westward, ending up in Ireland to visit two sets of friends in late October. That leaves me about three weeks to revisit loved spots or discover new ones (right now I’m looking at flat rentals in the Algarve...)
Fun day trip! Beautiful coastal (?) town. All so cute and quaint. Love the brick work and all the boats make it so picturesque. Fun to see the Pensioners Lunch too. They must get a thrill being part of your blog reporting. Do they think you are a crazy Yank? HaHa! Love your reporting on the countryside, it is so much fun to share in your adventures in a little way (-; Keep on blogging ... your fans love it.
So your host has these plates! I would be right at home there. (I'm not sure I'm redponding in the right place. This blig structure is very confusing.)
Agreed I agree, it’s awkward to carry one a conversation on this blog, what with all the review processes, etc. ( best do that via text or email.). But I do love getting a comment or two on each of my posts, so I know SOMEone is reading them... ?
Lovely pix! You ate one meal on my pink transferware dishes! I wonder if they still make it or if you were eating on an antique plate like mine? Don't feel too badly about your rain, you'd be getting the same thing here... for the past 3 days and three more to come it looks like. So love reading your blog. More!
Plates That was the crab wrap I brought “home” to Christina’s cottage. She has bunches of mismatched plates (thus one is Mason’s “Vista England”) It reminds me of the Spode “Camellia” pattern my daughter and mother-in-law chose. ?
You’re kind to be so encouraging!!
I appreciate your recognition that you do not have to be on the go all the time. That the goal was to experience living there. And there's plenty of time to see what needs to be seen. Love your photos and find myself yearning to be other than where I am. Must renegotiate that...
Yep Thanks for the validation, Diane! After my extensive travels this weekend, I’m having a quiet day, in which my big adventure was refueling the car ($52.. gulp!), making potato salad, and bingeing on realty shows like “Escape to the Country” and “A Home in the Sun.”
I didn't know you were still doing that cold. Sorry it's lasting so long. Nonetheless, you seem to be enjoying yourself. How wonderful that you're making friends, enough that they ask how you're doing and if they can do anything for you. Gossipy friends though they may be. Ha! I look forward to your outing with other people. How long are you staying in that house? Thanks for blogging. It makes my life so much more interesting.
Loving your posts and adventures I just figured out how to comment on your wonderful reporting and the joy of experiencing it from afar! Your thorough research and planning to create this adventure and your reports of daily life bring joy to my morning reading! Thanks !
Thanks! So glad you’re reading and enjoying it, Lis, AND that you commented! It’s like “getting mail from home” whenever anyone comments (here or in FB). Big hugs to you and Doug!
English Rose’ ??? Lovely meal pics and had to ask, where did the lovely bottle of Rose’ come from?? Probably French? Looks lovely and hopefully you will be able to attend the local elderly luncheon! Love it that you have already made friends who are checking on you ?. Take care dear friend!
Rosée The rosée was a Sainsburys “house brand” and quite good. Can’t say the same for the Italian Sangiovese I also bought - it’s pretty stringent! ?
I always love shopping in other countries, it’s such an adventure, with happy surprises (such as really cheap, really good cheese here) and only a few disappointments (like the red.) ?
Hello I really am enjoying your updates. You certainly have picked a wonderful place to spend 2 months. Maybe I might do something like that but instead perhaps go to Germany. Love and hugs, Lorraine ♥️
Rabbits Everywhere??? Why??? What a fun little town! First observation is what is the significance of the abundance of bunnies? Second, I would love to share that lunch at Britons Arms....OMG crab salad stuffed popovers...be still my heart! Glad you are conquering the roads and venturing out. Hope your head cold is subsiding and letting you out for more adventures. Love following your story.
This looks like a wonderful journey through rabbits and cathedrals. What's up with their thing for rabbits? Sure hope your knees are recovered. I'm sure your cold is a thing of the past by now. Thanks so much for sharing this travel log with us. I admire your willingness to do it alone and with sore knees. Hopefully the latter will give in and give up.
Hysterical!! Oh my goodness! Happy no bodily harm was done to you (slightly worried in the beginning) but what a hysterical adventure! Laughed out loud about the owners reaction to your phone call !!! Your pics were perfect in convincing me I would have gone showerless for the month. Way too complicated ?. Hopefully this will be the most upsetting adventure and all will be smooth sailing going forward. Take care dear friend.
