Ironic Pop-culture Dude... If you are offended by such an innocuous comment based on Mr Cohens character, Ali.G, then I suggest you check out the 'Borat' movie to see where it comes from..... No 'Irony by-passes' on my travels Dude! And no offence caused!
Dude, seriously uncool title. Casually offensive and no applicable story to level it out... made me grimace, brother. Your travels are great, but you should kill that kind of stuff.
Keep on trucking We're truly amazed by your journey. At the beginning you were taking a similar route to us - though because we were using trains I think we overtook you somewhere around Novosibirsk. The distances seemed huge to us and I still can't believe you've managed to cycle them. We really noticed the air quality in China too, and we didn't have to try exercising in it! Keep it up, we regularly check your blog to see how you are going. Dal and Ab
Fantastic Journey! Congratulations on your Journey. Shows what the human body is capable of. I hope your ankles and knees recover. I have been following your trip since late September--truly amazing, cheers! ;-)
So close to the border Thanks for your postings. I had noticed them on Travelblog front page and finally decided to subscribe. You had an amazing adventure. Driving (or cycling in your case) around a country (or continent in your case!) is the best way to know it.
Just a comment: I am surprised by how close is Beijing to the Mongolian border. If my math is correct, from your postings I added 275 miles from the border to the Great Wall, and 176 more to Beijing. Thats like 450 miles. I thought it was more...
Thanks for the postings, anyway.
cheers
Hello! Hello there moblogger/travelblogger! I'm a graduate student at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, USA. As part of my Master's Thesis, I am researching the concept of travelblogging and moblogging in the hopes of constructing a unique service geared toward the moblogger/travelblogger's distinct community. Of note, and maybe just to put us all at ease, this is not a money-making thing... nope, it's a crucial part of my graduate research that I hope you can participate in!
I've constructed an online survey that should only take about 2 minutes to complete. Any input that you could provide would be of great help!
You can take the survey at the following address:
www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=15302763533
Thanks so much for your help!
Blog on!
Sam
P.S. If you have any questions, comments, or difficulties with the survey, please feel free to send me an email at travelblog@sambot.com.
P.P.S. Oh... and I promise, any and all of the information that you provide will go directly toward my research. I will never, ever, ever share your information with anyone else. Again, thank you so much!
I thought the American West was desolate I rode from Yellowstone National Park to the Grand Canyon on a solo, unassisted bike trip. There were times when the scenery was desolate and brown but your photos of Mongolia look like photos from the Mars lander. It sounds like an incredible journey you're making. When you're done, I'd love to publish some tips from you for the benefit of all the long distance riders and bike tour dreamers that visit my site.
Respectfully,

Keep goin!! Hey Bikepacker,
You are doin what I always wanted to do. feels like a Dejavu. Good luck to you and ur buds and yes good luck further down the road.
Well done! Well done guys! I've been reading your entries for a while and they are really inspirational. You make my hardest travelling seem like a trip to the nearest 5-star hotel... Respect!
Itchy feet Bloody hell is this nostalgic, back at a desk, winter drawing on, money in the bank, forget buying a house, I could so bugger off and do the other half of the planet.
Anybody want to come? I've given up the fags and beer for breakfast (honest).
Reply to "Freezing" At no time did we share a tent - it didn't get cold enough for "Shared bodily warmth". It was minus 8 in the tent, that's where the thermometer was. It actually got much colder than -8... keep reading the memorablog. ANDY
Wow! That is a crazy story about the gay truck driver! We are starting our cross-country bicycle trip tomorrow. We are taking the Southern Tier route from San Diego to the Florida Keys. At around 3600 miles.... it may seem like a short tour to you guys! Good luck in your travels, we will keep you in mind.
Please beat the cold So I'm your grandmother's age, I'm sitting in China reading your blog and that photo of you in the tent in heavy frost caught me. I started worrying about you. But then I read on and realized you really are sane and will enjoy the adventure and not be crazy. Good luck and God Bless.
Old Travel Blog? Hi,
I've been enjoying your blog for awhile now. But I had no idea it was from 2001 until you made the last post. I guess you are posting an older journal. Either way, please keep it up - I love to read about your adventures.
Time travel? Hi man, I wonder if there is a particular reason why you choose not to date the journal entries by when they took place? I do it all the time and I think it helps put things in perspective. Anyway, keep up the good work!
It's as good as you make it... In places as vast and as diverse as Russia, I don't think you can measure a situation as good or bad. There are areas I woundn't visit such as the Caucasus region, and I'd be a bit cautios in Moscow. But, who's going to bother a guy on a bike who hasn't showered for a few days?
Hi! I'm Andy Ganner, known as the "BIKEPACKER". Meaning I put everything on my bike; tent, cooker, clothes, food, tent, and sleeping bag... and just set off on an adventure.
Been doing it nearly 20 years and have hand-written journals for every trip from my RTW backpacking trip of 1986, up to present.
Over the next years I'll be publishing my "Memorablogs" of these trips. It will take time as there are many slides to scan, I only went digital in 2009.
You can already read the epic England to Singapore trip: 2001 a Bike Odyssey, now. It's all there, word for word from my written jour... full info
