2/22/2010 Even though we were home relatively early for a concert- we still grabbed the opportunity to sleep in. This was our final location and we had just the one hotel room at the Mercure near the central train station for the next six days. So we treated it like home- unpacked our shared back pack and I spent the better part of the day watching daytime TV. James went to comic book stores and Red Eye record store. In the evening we went to China town for dinner. It was great we got a plate of lamb and one of beef and a whole pile of vegetables (some unknown) and noodles and then they brought this pot and placed it on this hot plate on the table and cracked up the heat to a ... read more

02/21/2010 I have never been to a bigger concert there were 40,000 concert goers, 6 stages, and 30 bands. The place was throbbing sea of people, but it was all surprisingly civilized. There was a sign at every stage that said 'No Moshing, No Crwod Surfing" and for the most part those rules were adhered to. We didn't arrive until 5 pm which was just fine I think if we would have showed up at 11 am we would have been leaving by 5, sunburnt and miserable as we had noticed some of the poor saps crawling our of there. It was not a day to forget your sunscreen or to not stay hydrated. We immediatly got some water, they had free places to fill your bottles and mnay food and ice cream stands which all ... read more

2/19/2010 James and I left Bali at 11 pm arrived in Darwin- had a 3 hour layover then a 4 hour flight to Sydney. We arrived at 1 pm and easily located Natasha and Luisa (and yes- it was the hair I saw first on Lou) who had come to collect us. We jumped in Tasha's wheels and set in for a 3 hour drive to the "beach shack". When we arrived we were pleased to notice that it was not a shack at all just seems like an "A" frame suburban house at the beach with the shower in the garage. I was happy to meet Natasha's man Nick and Heather and Voltz who I had not seen in a while. We got our swim suits on right away grabbed the blow up raft ... read more

2/16/2010 We woke up in the comfort of our hotel room still relatively red and a bit hung over (damn you Bintang) but ready for the next town. The dude, Putu who had suggested the hotel had also offered his driver services for our trip up north. He was early but we eventually got it together and headed through the interior of Bali. It was very cool and mountainous, we saw volcanos from a distance and lake Bantur. We had hoped to do a surise climb of the volcano but apparently it is just not the season for that kind of thing. We travelled through the coffee fields and through the Mundak area. james and I started to play a dog game, he counted the dogs on his side and I counted the ones on my ... read more

2/17/2010 Did I mention the rooster that crows sporadically right outside our window? Well it makes it pretty hard to sleep so around 8 am we finally decided just to get out of bed. We were picked up at 9:30 and whisked away to the lovely Menjargen island for some snorkeling. James had a bit of the "Bali belly" but he soldiered on and though he did hurl once we had a great time snorkling and looking at stuff underwater. I saw an eel (which later I was told is dangerous) and we saw the cutest tubular bright blue star fish. I had a lovely lunch (James was not eating) then we snorkeled again off another side of the island, more fish and underwater plants. We got back to the hotel at about 2:30 and James ... read more

Note: Ya know how I was planning on juicing this blog up with photos? Well, there will be none from Thailand as James walked into the sea with his camera "D'oh" Got a new camera now so back on track- hopefully will be able to upload videos when we get to Sydney. 2/11/2010 Arrived in Bali and a guy from our hotel had a sign with my name on it (I felt like a movie star) - after escaping a "tip" for this dude who placed our bag on a trolley and asked us some questions we were off to Ubud. Bali seems to be hotter than the jungle and let me tell you a ceiling fan does not even begin to cut through this kind of heat. We had a nice hotel with the sound ... read more

2/8/2010 We have already had so many adventures I am thinking this blog is more of a way for us to remember than anything else. On Monday we arrived in Khai Sok National Park, the park is a jungle covering 738 sq km. We got a taxi from Bang Niang and had the driver swing by the Police Boat,- the boat had been picked up and tossed approximately 4 miles in the Tsunami and now stands as a memorial. Our taxi driver was nice enough to drive us to a couple different accommodations until we found a place with tree houses that we liked. We stayed at Arts Riverside Lodge next to the monkey watering hole. We quickly changed and went on a hike through the jungle to see some waterfalls. The water was pretty low ... read more

Again sorry for the dashed off post and the lack of pictures, am planning a lot more free time in the next location of Bali. 2/3/10 Mike and Christophe finally showed up after James and I had dinner at a beer garden and got to sample many Northern specialities, "hmmmm" is all I have to say about that. While waiting for them we had a snooze and then we all went our for more food and Big Changs (the local beer) at a pavement restaurant then we continued to drink beer like there was no tomorrow, we went to bed at 4am. 2/4/10 Woke up hanging, had breakfast and made it a whole day of Northern Wats, met a monk who we helped with his English homework, drank lots of water and took lots of photos. ... read more

Friday 1/29/10 Before heading across the seas James and I spend the night in San Francisco with Anissa and Nat. On Friday we went to SFMOMA and took in some Art, that's right with a capital "A". That night we went to Hard Knox for the friend chicken and waffle dinner of our life- a very authentic American send off. At the airport we met up with Matt for some very large beers and a chat and then got on our 12:05 plane for Bangkok. After a 14 hour flight we had a three hour layover in Taipai then another 4 hours to Thailand, we selected the eggs option for breakfast foregoing the noodles and Kim Che. 1/31/2010 We arrived in Bangkok dead tired and having lost an entire day- on the way back we will ... read more
