Incorrect Information I just want to let you know that a lot of what you've stated is incorrect. For example, the mine was not actually closed due to the health risks imposed, however it was closed because it was actually not running profitably. The health of the workers never appeared to be considered seriously by CSR or ABA throughout the running of the mine.
Most of the people didn't 'leave anyway' but were encouraged to leave through government incentives and the phasing down period of closing the town lasted 28 years, starting in 1978 encouraging residents to leave, and finally finishing in 2006 when it was degazetted and removed from maps and roadsigns.
I just thought you might like to know :)

I love the pilbarra. I still believe Wittenoom got a raw deal. I lived in the Pilbarra for many years, visited the town, and to be honest I have considered going back there to finish my last few years where I am comfortable.. in the Pilbarra. Terry Carr. Clinton Mississippi.

Awesome pics Fantastic pics of walk. If anyone else is inspired to do the walk there's a non-commercial web site walkingthetmb.com which gives lots of advice on how to go about it. We're planning to do the walk in the summer and found the site the only place that had all the information we needed - ie all the stuff that tends not to be in the guides. Hope to post our pics in August! : ) .
Great Job Guys! What a great site, it's informative, great to use and full of relevant stuff. Congratulations on giving guests to and in Australia a really good look at whats on offer. Keep up the great work guys.

Les Drus The mountain which looks like a pyramid above the mer de glace is called les drus (http://www.pays-mont-blanc.com/photos/aiguilles-verte-sans-nom-drus.php). It's a very famous place for alpinism.
Let's say, once you'll make it you'll be called Madame :)

Brings Back Memories! Great pictures! It really reminds me of last fall when I was trekking in Nepal. The yak and the dung-burning stove, hehe.

I am a 35 years old Israeli girl. I have been to many places, mainly in Europe, a little of the US and some places in South East Asia, but now I decided to take a look at the world from a different angle. I bought an open ticket, I am packing my backpack and I am not making too many plans in advance except the plan to tell you all about my travels in this blog.... full info
