On Friday we got up too late for a change and therefore had to alter our original plans for a long hike that day. We went to the Info center in Cooma and they told us it was going to rain in the afternoon and snow at night and we might not be able to hike also the next day :-(
So we started with alternative plans for that day and we made a driving tour in the national park of the Snow Mountains. Of course, there was no snow at that season and in fact the entire tour was pretty boring. We went to one thermal pool but discovered that it was only 27 degrees. Is that thermal???? But in the evening as we approached our destination - Thredbo - we passed through an area reach with wildlife, and suddenly we saw them: kangaroos and emus! This was our first kangaroo encounter in nature and it was much more fun than the zoo because in the evening they are active. We had to drive really slowly not to hit one because they tend to run to the road when they see the car lights. We saw several kangaroos in some locations and even stopped to get closer to them (and film their amazing running - jumping!). This made the whole boring day worthwhile.
In the evening we got to Thredbo to find it looks like a ski resort (ski season will start probably in a month) and costs accordingly even though it was a dead village out of season.
We woke up on Saturday to a fine day. There was no snow and no rain even though they predicted them, and it was a great day to climb to the top of Australia. I heard there was this club of people that climbed the highest peaks in different continents, can I be a member now? The root to the top can be REALLY easy if you take the chair lift and then hike for about 1.5 hours on a very easy path, build above ground to protect nature. We wanted a but more challenge (correction, Korhan wanted and I joined: how do I always find myself traveling with guys that want to climb every peak? well, as long as they all carry my bag I don't care :-) so we climbed the path from the village, which added 1.5 hours of a pretty steep path (it's the ski area so no wonder), and a lot more satisfaction when I got to the top.
Going down we really didn't want to go through the steep path again - it's boring to do it twice, but we didn't want to pay 24$ for one way. However Korhan told the operator something about me not feeling well, I didn't even hear what he said but suddenly I find myself on the chairlift for free! It was fun and saved us an hour...

And after the "peak of the day" - we drove 5 hours to the next destination, the Victoria coast. We stopped in a nowhere town called Cann river and I only mention that because it's so not important. Unbelievable what kind of nowhere places they have here...
