travelling Arrived home to many blogs,so much richer response to all u have described after time in Indonesia.Love Chris . Thanks for postcard Phoebe xx
Phoebe is a star! What a wonderful essay you have written Phoebe. Its all so well described and explained - especially the food bits! I can't wait to see you either and its not long now. I'll be meeting you at Edinburgh airport and you will get to see the beautiful Scottish borders. Then we'll go to North Wales and you'll meet your English family.
lots and lots of love

hi from home-we are back.....in the land of castles(with less impressive toilets, hihi) and wienerschnitzel, reunited with friends and family.it feels great!mind you, though, if i see your pictures and read the wonderful stories ................
lots of love, b.
Responding to Katie Alex says she thinks you'd have a terrible Melbourne accent. You'd have to say 'dants' not 'dance'. Anyway, Palymra was around a couple of centuries BC, then the Romans took over and expanded it in first century AD. Then they sacked it after the rebellion in 273AD. It was later used by Muslims who took over and built the castle on the hill from around 11th century or so. So there you go.
"I'd be in my element with all the history."
So modest too!
Wow! This place looks fantastic!! I'd be in my element with all the history. The castle looks stunning. Around what century/ies were the Romans in Syria? Which centruy was the castle built in? Will definitely put this place on my 'to-see' list and I might just put on my Australian accent and say I'm from Melbourne too! xxx
How incorrect you are... ...Katie Redwood. In fact the famous brown pants are currently making their way across the big water to some poor unfortunate for her 21st birthday. :-)
I'll take Phoebe's very accurate drawing of "The Confrontation" as a suggestion that Nick has resumed wearing the ghastly putrid pants again. By golly, some people never learn....
hi phoebe, we really liked your drawings, especially the greedy customs officer and your mum´s look of despair.well done, girl.you are such an experienced traveller now ,we can´t wait to hear you tell us all about it in autumn.try to make the best of syria, and take good care!lots of love from birgit and lukas
Phoebe looks cute! Looks like you all had a nice holiday in Hong Kong plus a pair of shoes free of charge for Phoebe. Lol. Seriously, shoe getting caught in the escalator can be dangerous.
enjoy Dearest Alex, Nick and Phoebe
It is wonderful to join you all via Blog on your trip.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy - and keep the photos coming also.
Much love
Rae
thank yet again great blogs, this last lot - a kind of vicarious travel for me. Jordan sounds wonderful but you did have to undergo the trial of the luggage and flights before arriving in paradise. Keep it comming - I love them.
we love the mud, the floating, the beer.......your blogs!!!!!!!hope phoebes injury will heal soon, dont let her use toooooo many escalators in her new shoes, though.we are kind of stuck-decided to cancel the friday flight to bangkok-far too dangerous to stay in the city.checking into budget accomodation on phuket(oh dear!!!but very convenient to fly out into various directions),hoping for things to calm down a little.if we are lucky we hop on a connecting plane on monday lunchtime ,get on board our ba flight to london and are out of here.keep your fingers crossed for us.love, b.
Hello all! I've been so eager for the Jordon blogs and very pleased to say I've not been disappointed. It all sounds so beautiful. Hope you managed to arrive safely in Syria, I'm looking equally forward to hearing all about it.
Keep taking care and having a wonderful time
Sharleen xx
wow!!!! i was soaking up (or is it in?)every single word, how marvellous this experience must have been.looks like i will have to decide between wadi rum and the sahara desert for my 50th birthday(that sounds pretty scary).....i definitely want to spend it in the desert.....and in 3 years time my finances should be stocked up again.by the way, where are the shots of the men in dresses?lots of love, birgit and lukas(who likes phoebies hairstyle and is all into harry potter now)
we love your big smiles and the introduction-what a good choice you have made.when i mentioned to lukas that i would be truely ready-theoretically- for some proper travelling again he gave me the looks and put his foot down.not before next year.what a shame!
middle east wounderful times ahead there.Am off to Lombok t'mrw. adventure for me. minor compared to your travels.adventure for me!Hope it gives courage for more.love AC
hi there,i cant believe they put you on the next flight without any additional charges, how fantastic.we have successfully mutated from travellers to holidaymakers-which lukas enjoys a lot.koyao is a beautiful small island near the touristy phuket, our resort is great,we eat, sleep ,swim and bike round the island-it is 5km to the nearest shop and everyday commodities like crisps, fruit or cookies are ridiculously expensive(of course)in the resort.
i am in constant contact with the embassy and have unfortunately just received a serious travel warning for bangkok.the roadmap has apparently fallen through today and now the government wants to cut down electricity and water supplies in the protesters area.....in reverse bomb attacks are being expected.just what we need now.......
curious to read up on the middle east, lots of love, birgit
more great times
wounderful blog ,gave me more smiles. You 3 r a special trio. Now am off to enjoy Lombok, especially swimming +snorkeling. Am so lucky xxAC
boy, if lukas reads this entry he will get so jealous-you know how much he would have loved going to hongkong.mind you, the way you shop around for new shoes is certainly one to be copied .....
I really enjoyed your Hong Kong post and photos! I wish I had done trips like that when I was Phoebe's age! My blog is looking for travel reviews (about chicken feet, or of hostels with tiny rooms! ;), etc, to share. If you have the time, check it out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com, or email us at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com. Continued fun on your travels!
