Not much to see here except alot of sand!!Just after 7pm, sixteen hours after leaving the UK, we approached Bangkok's Suvarnabumi Airport. It was already dark, but the twinkling lights of Bangkok and it's chaotic streets were as clear as ever, which couldn't be said of our jet lagged minds!
The flight was a good one (or should we say two flights). The first leg took us to the Middle Eastern country of Qatar where we had a quick layover before boarding our very empty flight to Bangkok.
Touching down we were more excited than ever, albeit extremely exhausted from the amount of time we had spent awake. Flights these days don't promote sleep. With personal TVs and hundreds of movies and games to choose from, it's impossible to get any shut-eye! Passing all the usual formalities (immigration, customs etc.) we were picked up by Amy's uncle and his family brood of two kids. We were to spend almost two weeks with them, aclimatising to the Eastern Hemisphere and the stifling humitidy, and most importantly the food. Talking of food, we were to experience it almost immediately. We stopped to pick up a third of Amy's cousins at his Thai uncle's house where food was readily available

...and more sand! for us....and boy did it wake us up! Thai food, as we all know, has a kick and yes, this gave us one big kick!
Our first night was spent in Bangkok at Amy's uncles second (or first?) house. On a nice suburban street, next to a river, it is a nice first stop over. The following day we spent it exploring one of Bangkok's many markets. This one (name forgotten) had it all, except for the tourists. Toys, food, electronics, animals (including monkeys, squirrels and the sort) and plenty of life. As this wasn't a touristy market, the cheap souvenir tit-tats weren't to be found. This was a place to experience real Thai life. Haggling skills are a must!
We headed back to Residence de Walton a la Bangkok to pack our things up and drove about two hours south to the province of Chonburi, where we are staying for the next week and a half. We spent our time ridding our bodies of jetlag, babysitting the three terrorising cousins of Amy, dosing ourselves with spicy food and getting lost in the midday heat trying to find a village shop. ...finally some buildings!! Impressive ones at that! out (briefly) the nearby town of Pattaya, which is famous for street upon street of girly bars and brothels. It really was not our scene (really!). We took a trip up to Bangkok, but sadly, didn't see many sites as we end up getting lost in a sprawling market by the river!
We spent alot of time planning our trip through Thailand, making some changes to the itinerary and adding a few must-see places to visit. Our adventure proper was upon us and it was going to be a blast!
