Our last full day in Nha Trang was a busy one, so much so that we might all be in bed by 8pm! I (it's Kylie here) started the day at 6am with a trip around the local food markets with the hotel chef. It was very interesting and I sampled and saw lots of great, fresh produce - the pork belly this morning was piping hot and unbelievable as were the freshly made fish patties. Fish, frogs, eggs of all kinds, beef- the darkest coloured beef I have ever seen, it looked a bit like venison, wonderful pork, amazing yellow chickens, ducks, prawns, and the fruit and veg that mainly comes in from Dalat was all so appealling to me. Would love to buy from the markets and go home to cook all day here! From the markets it's was onto a traditional Vietnamese breaky, pho, which had all the trimmings, consisted of pork and beef this morning, fresh garlic, some bean sauce thing and it was all yummy. Then onto a Vietnamese coffee joint for tea and coffee, which was way too strong for me but I drank as much as I thought was polite (think my heart stopped
for 3 seconds just after that however). Back into the cyclo and to the hotel just in time for our 9am boat trip.
We were met at reception with our tour guide, courtesy of the hotel and taken by taxi to our boat. It was great, a boat a little bigger than ours with heaps of room for all. So off we went to the aquarium, which was dodgie but the kids enjoyed it, then onto Mun Island for snorkelling. Fred and Caitlin jumped in the water briefly and Lucy attempted a snorkle but ended up back on the boat with the other two. After much deliberations with regards to sharks, I got in and Dan was already in and ages away from the boat. Dan and I both agree that we went in the water with little expectations of seeing anything much, but were very surprised to see the variety of coral / fish / sea creatures and the amazing water clarity. It was really good and we snorkelled for around half an hour - of course Dan snuck behind me and grabbed me on the leg, terrifying me which in turn prompted me to join the kids
on the boat.
After snorkelling it was fish farm time with the biggest live cuttlefish I have ever seen. They were feeding them and we watched in amazement as the cuttlefish circled their prey before unleashing massive tenticle things and sucking the food (small, unfortunate fish) up. There were crabs, fish, cuttlefish, lobsters and so many ponds attached to a boat or someone's small house on the water.
Then it was beach time! We arrived at a beautiful, quiet beach and enjoyed a fantastic seafood lunch. The kids especially liked the baby octopus dish (see photos). Hung out at the beach realaxing, swimming, making sand castles and snoozing u til 3pm and then we headed back to the hotel.
Early night in preparation for a 5am start to catch our plane (we wanted to ensure we caught this plane, this time lol).
Checking out of Sunrise Beach Hotel was sad as it was such a fantastic place to stay. The staff, the rooms, the facilities and the food are all highly recommended. The concierge gave us all a delux breakfast box for the trip to the airport and said"I hate goodbyes", too lovely!
Lots of
photos attache, but for some reason they have loaded up all over the place and some with incorrect titles..........
