Day 17 Giao Xuan
Woke up today at 6am. It was all quiet, except for the continual down pur of rain, and I could hear Mrs Tsin working away outside. The poor woman never stops! I got up and sat outside, the woman is a work machine. We have a shower rota, which I am at the end of, so I am just sat watching the world, (Mrs Tsin) go by until my turn! To day we are going on a country walk because the school is closed, I can't see it happening to be honest! This morning I was moved into a room on my own, due to my age! I am sure everyone else will be very happy due to my snoring!! Which I fully understand, but it does make me feel solitary at times. I suppose it is just like being at home! My legs are really showing signs of improvement today; I hope the country walk doesn't make things worse again, as I am nearly out of antibiotics!
Well I was wrong wasn't I! The walk will continue, in the down pour, but to be honest it isn't a bad thing, as we would go stir
crazy if we just sat here! Breakfast was interesting - cold pancakes and a banana, I just settled for the banana, couldn't stomach cold per- fried pancakes! We set off walking through the village, Giao Xuan, in the poring rain, with Kevin and Luyen. We met with a local man, Mr Lạp, who would take us to the church, a local family house and a house where a man makes fish sauce. The church was a main catholic church, which was very nice from the outside. About 75% of the people in this area are catholic. That's about 3000 people. We couldn't go inside as it was closed. Then on to the local family house which was very similar to one that we saw at the Ethnology Centre in Hanoi. The people were so friendly, and pleased to show us their home. We were made very welcome by being offered green tea. We left there to continue on the fish sauce house.
For some unknown reason a local person decided to throw building rubble at us. A piece just missed Becky and Britty, but a piece about 4 inches by 2 inches hit me hard on the side of
my face, just below my ear. I was so shocked, and it did upset me, but I suppose there is good and bad people wherever you go. I am concerned due to it being my right ear; i hope it doesn't affect my Meniers Disease, or I will be in bother. My hearing level seems to have dropped but I really don't want to put my hearing aid in unless I really have to! We'll see how it goes! The fish sauce man, Mr Phung, was so happy to share his experience of what he does with us. He was 72 yrs old. It smelt really bad, but fish at 6 months of maturing would smell, wouldn't it?
We had our first school session, it went ok, but having never dealt with 6yr olds before.......they were good in the lesson, learning to count, a few colours and a bit of the alphabet, but then it was break...OMG...they went manic! When they came back in class they were much harder to contain, but we did slog on! The rain has continued to be torrential all day. We have just had chicken noodles for tea; then off to the
karaoke bar. We are invited to join in, but all we really want is the Internet! We can't possibly go over in the rain as it is right now, but hopefully it may slow down enough for us to get there.
Went over to the bar with Britty to try for Internet. We had to dodge a snake in the flood water to get there.....and got no Internet connection for all our trouble!
