Day 2 - more of Hanoi
We had an early start this morning so that we could enjoy taking part in the very social Hoan Kiem Lake exercising set! I did this previously on my last stay here. It is such a phenomena, that I felt the need to revisit it! I think that all of the people who live here go down to the lake for early morning exercise. It is an amazing sight. You see many pockets of people doing badminton, tai chi, aerobics, dancing, walking, running and jogging,
First, I joined a cha-cha and rumba class. The ladies there where great, giving me instruction, whilst laughing!
Then we both joined a sort of aerobics class. We both got right into it, sweating buckets at the end.
We returned to the hotel for breakfast of bread and an omelette with fruit and tea. Lovely.
We need to repack as they are changing our room to the one that we actually booked later today. Going out for an iced tea before setting off for the day.
We opted to be peddled there in a rickshaw.... Hmmm .... Luxury! Helen was a bit jumpy to
start, but totally got in the swing of it, weaving through the bikes, cars, motorbikes, people.... And horns... lol
It's really barbaric how people were treated in there. I have been before so didn't take many pics! Our little man waited for us, as agreed, to take us to the Temple of Literature. Another swift rickshaw ride.. Well worth the cost!
Next he took us to the Temple of Litetature, again I have lots of pics from my previous trip, so didn't take many there.
On our epic walk back, we embarked on .... Buying a Vietnemese SIM card with data on it! OMG, that was a tough job, but after using my ultra amazing bilingual talents, .... And with the support of Google translate, I did it! We now have the use google maps wherever we are..... Yyayyyy..... No getting lost for us!
Finally, we took a rest to fill up on food. A lovely lunch in the centre of Hanoi..... Now completely stuffed! Then the rain came! Luckily Helen had supplies, so I donned the green wet gear, from volunteering for Macmillan ! A lovely example of a thin plastic poncho which was most
suitable, and very welcome. Helen put on her pac-a-Mac. Both looking lovely in our hear, we were able to continue to meander through the thin streets of packed stalls and shops.
After shopping, we had to do a 'drop off' at the hotel! Our backpacks and wet washing had been moved to the 'deluxe' room. The description is a very loose one..... Lol. No.... It is ok!
After charging our phones, which we are both using as cameras, we were soon back out in the streets again. Tonight's plan is to get some cake and iced coffee before meandering around the lake for the last time. On a night it is all beautifully lit up. It is the equivalent of a Spanish Promenade where everyone meets to chat, dance, walk, or just generally mingle, and socialise.
We have an early start tomorrow heading off for a 3 day cruise in Ha Long Bay & Cat Ba Island
