Actually feeling a bit excited about going on holiday this morning.
As we aren't going to be here for the next week we don't even need to go into Phon Thong market to do any shopping which is also good news.
The cabbage plants that we have grown from seed are quite big now and Jai picks out a few of them and plants. We will ask someone to give the veggies water whilst we are away but whether they actually will or not … ?
Yai Peng's son from opposite comes to buy some rice. Weighing out it turns out that the rice sacks don't weigh 50kg as I was led to believe but somewhere in the mid-30kgs. This means all of my calculations about this year's crop were way out. Sell 33 sacks at 1029kg for 13400Bht, about 250GBP. Still a lot better than taking them to the rice station where we have to pay for the lorry to transport them and pay the station 10% commission on the value. We have some room in the rice house again as well.
Next job is start off Jai's 'wine' so it is ready for when everyone comes home for new year. Seems to consist of ‘powder', sticky rice and water. When I ask what the ‘powder'actually is Jai doesn't know. An old Chinese woman in Phon Thong has been making it for years but won't tell anyone what she puts in it … interesting ?! It is all alchemy to me but for sure whatever we end up with wont be gold !
It is just as well we are going away for the week as by now there is almost no food left in the house and this evening I drink the last bottle from my box of beer.
Jai thinks there is football on at midnight so I wake up to check only to find the draw for the Euros in France next year. Right back to sleep.
