I was incredibly lucky with my timing when I arrived in Krabi, I asked for directions to the port and a ferry was due to leave within 30 mins, so I booked on, got organised and carefully rolled my bike across a plant to the ferry where I tied it on. I realise there won't be much cycling on the island but I don't know how I will get off the island so I need to have my bike with me.
The trip over is lovely and I remember all the islands at Krabi from a few years ago, which I enjoy seeing again and lovely memories of being out here in a long tail boat with a silly big grin on my face at the joy of being here. It takes a few hours to cross over and I chat away to a lovely Italian girl most of the way there. On arrival thankfully a couple of the crew helped me with my bike and I was off and searching for a cheap dorm for a couple of nights which thankfully I found easily enough however there doesn't really seem to be anywhere except the street for my bike.
I end up spotting a nearby Irish Pub and the owner from Dublin said I could store the bike in the back of his place that way it was out of sight and out of harm's way which was really kind. My plan here is visiting nice beaches and a bit of island hopping and snorkeling which turns out to be a great experience. I met a fellow Glaswegian who owns/runs the main diving school but since I recently broke my collar, ribs and fractures, I can't dive and to be fair I'm still not fit enough for it but he kindly recommends where to use for the snorkeling tours which turns out to be an incredible, fun filled day although I was completely exhausted by the end of it.
There were maybe 20 on board and straight away I clicked with a Mexican family who were full of adventure and really lovely people. We first visited Monkey Island, and sure enough the monkey's were everywhere and was my first experience of seeing monkey's swimming which I found really odd, I guess I had never thought of it before! Next stop was Maya Island which was made famous by the movie 'The Beach' and I couldn't believe I was here, it was difficult getting onto the island with the amount of boats and tourists but when we got into the beach I was disappointed to see so many boats, honestly at one point you couldn't even see any of the beach!
Numerous photos were taken by going as far away as possible, so we all managed to get some nice photos although I'm sure they should be looking after the area better with a bit of conservation. Next stop was back to boat and not far off Maya Island for snorkeling, where there were many colorful fish to look at and I found it funny that one guy on the boat kind of freaked out when he was completely surrounded. The crew where feeding them though, drawing them in, so we had a fun snorkel before heading to Shark Point although unfortunately no sharks were spotted before going round Phi Phi to Mosquito and Bamboo Islands for more snorkeling which was fantastic. I've never seen so many colorful fish ever, especially some of the bigger one's which were purple, with greens and blue, really vibrant and like nothing I had ever seen before.
The rest of my time on the island was spent either on Long Beach which is beautiful white sands or up near the viewpoints followed by a relaxing couple of beers, I have to admit I partied one night with the folk from the hostel which was good fun, dancing down on the beach with the fire shows going, lots of dancing and a good time.
So Koh Phi Phi is just a stunning, beautiful island with the clearest water I have ever seen and was lovely returning too.
