People call Siam Sunray as Thailand’s signature cocktail because of its origin. This cocktail was not invented by particular bartender, it was created by the order of General Department of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) with the purpose of stimulating the country’s tourism industry. TAT expects that Siam Sunray will be a symbol of the country which reminds tourist about Thailand every time they taste it. "Successful signature drinks are one way to fast-track holiday destinations on to the world tourism map" said the tourism authority.

The inventor of Siam Sunray is Surasakdi Pantaisong – the winner of National Bartender in September 2008 at the complex Siam Paragon. The cocktail is a harmonious blend of tropical flavors: the sweetness of coconut, the spice of chili pepper, the sharp tang of ginger and the aromatic tang of lemongrass. Here is the recipe for a Siam Sunray glass:

• 30ml-40ml vodka
• 15ml syrup
• 3 drops of fresh lemon juice
• a little club soda
• 30ml coconut-flavored rum, preferably Bacardi
• a small sliver of Thai chili
• 3 thin slices of ginger
• 1 stalks lemongrass
• 1 Kaffir lime leaf

With all ingredients, the bartender will shake well the combination for at least 30 seconds and strain into an ice-filled glass. A perfect Siam Sunray is ready to serve.

Coming to Thailand, you should try this unique cocktail. Siam Sunray is very light, refreshing and uplifting, especially in the scorching hot day in Bankok. You can easily find it in any bars, hotels and resorts in Thailand.
