East Coast Islands
We started our trip on the eastern islands of Koh Tao, Ko Phangon and Ko Samui..... not a bad way to start the island/beach circuit and some nice surf and sun.
For the Pics
KPG=Ko Phan-Ngan
KSM=Ko Samui
KT= Koh Tao
Koh Tao Of the three Koh Tao is my favorite, it was our first stop and we had a blast there. We took a taxi from the dock and kinda round-a-boutly ended up at a very nice small resort right on the beach for about $25 a night. The place was quiet enough and every night they turned the beach in front of the place into a little relaxing bar with torches and the sunset and a dj spinning mellow music........... I think our location really helped make this island for me.
We rented a scooter and explored the island......... there is only one main road and it doesnt even go everywhere on the island, some places are only accessible by sea or over dirt paths requiring ATV's and such. While there we met a nice Canadian couple and ended up hangin out with them for the next two islands too. Oh
yeah, I also got to scuba for the first time which was alot of fun and I definitely want to do it again. You gotta love the teaching technique for a first time lesson, the guy has me put my gear on and jump off the boat in about 30 feet of water before I have to swim to shore myself.......... once I got there (after scuba diving almost all the way there) he gave me and the other girl on the trip lessons..... inbetween his blatant passes at my classmate..... by the end of the lesson they were actually holding hands swimming (he was helping her of course) and I was following them around the reef doing my own thing.
Ko Pha-Ngan We ended up in Ko Pha-Ngan for the infamous "full moon party". Every full moon the island hosts a huge party on the beach and about 10k-15K people come out and party till the sun comes up....... it was cool but it woulda helped if they played something other than techno/house/whatever you call it. It was an experience nonetheless and we hung out for a while .......... no early morning sunrises for us. The Canadian
couple said they hit the beach early morning and people were still on the sand sleep.
Other than the full moon party, we did a lil day trip, snorkled, got to ride jet ski's for the first time and just hung out. It was a cool lil island but this time we didnt explore around on a bike at all........ just in the lil town. As a side note, every restaurant there was playing movies still in theatres for everyone there eating, we saw spider man 3, shrek, pirates of the carribbean......... they had chalkboards outside and posted the playing times...... gotta love S. East Asia.
Ko Samui Ko Samui was cool and we spent a few days here but it didnt do that much for me. The water was nice and the weather hot but it was pretty developed and touristy (I guess I am a tourist huh?). We cut our time here short to jump to the west coast islands........... and it worked out for the best.
