Phuket, venny in water.
Who was that masked photographer?!?!?! West Coast Islands
To put it in short we LOVED the west coast islands. We didn't even plan on visiting the western side because its the monsoon season and prone to days and days of rain. Along our way a couple we met told us that they had just come from the west side and only ran into rain for one day......... we figured it was worth a shot and headed out. Too bad we didnt plan to visit the west coast from the beginning and spend more time..... I think we only did 6 days between Phi Phi and Phuket and we could have spent weeks more jumping to other islands.
Phi Phi Island Phi Phi was my favorite of the two islands hands down! The island had one dock for incoming ships and had a very small native population, there wasn't even a car on the island.... only small motobikes. Everything about the place was perfect, I cant say enough about it. The highlights were our $50 hotel room overlooking the pool in the courtyard and the clear bay beside it, taking an awesome day trip to Maya Bay (where they filmed the beach), visiting bamboo
island (blew maya bay out of the water *no pun intended*), ending that day tour w/an amazing sunset.
To cap it all off I got to go shark diving the morning before we left. I had to do it.... the opportunity was there. I wish I had more pictures, I finished our underwater camera and only one of the shots came out and its nothing spectacular..... just a small blacktip swimming nearby. They had the tour posted around town so I thought it was a regular thing..... but that morning when I showed up to head out it was just me and the guide (more people woulda made me feel better). He took me out in the boat and explained that blacktip reef sharks arent agressive and shouldnt give us any problems but just keep my arms close to my body and dont splash alot with my flippers lolololol. Anywho, we werent in the water but a few minutes when the first ones appeared, apparently they feed at this reef every morning like clockwork and we saw between 7 and 10 sharks out there while we snorkeled around.... a bit unnerving but well worth it.
Enough on Phi
Maya Bay where "the beach" was filmed.
Nice lil bay but overcrowded with tourists.... Phi, I'll just call it amazing to sum it all up!
Phuket Phuket was nice, but a bit of a departure from the quiet island life I like so much. We stayed in the city of Patong which is party central and full of bar after bar after restaurant after bar, that sounds good right.......... but the twist on it is that many of the bars cater to clientelle looking to purchase some affection and are stocked accordingly....... that and I have never seen so many transvestites and 6ft tall women w/somewhat manly faces in my life. The beach itself wasnt that grand and once again, we found ourselves having more fun when we rented a motobike and drove to the outlying towns/beaches etc. While there we did an awesome snorkeling trip (those photos are with this entry).......... and also almost ran into an elephant crossing the road.......... heed the elephant crossing signs!!!!!
