Today wasn't our best day yet. As I mentioned yesterday, we arrived by night bus (not recommended!) in Bangkok at 5:00AM, and were immediately mobbed by taxi drivers. After some harsh bargaining we got one to take us to the airport for 700 baht (about 70 NIS, or $22, more or less) instead of 1,200, and we paid the 25 for the toll road. When we got there he tried to get 800 from us. We stood fast. Then he didn't have change. We found someone who did and saw his back fast! We found the rental agency (it was open and the rep was there). After some paperwork we got our car for the next week, and sat down for some very much needed coffee! Left the quietly busy surrounds of Phimai and travel west across Thailand to Uthai Thani province. The road between between Phimai and Uthai is surrounded by green lush valleys and lumpen mountains. You could imagine a multitude of 'Nam movies being shot in this location. Nong Chang is a sleepy village on the main road set amongst the rice paddies and sugar cane plantations and mountains in the distance. There was local market on playing the local Thai pop-hits at full pelt. Very atmospheric! The local market was also selling some dodgy looking deep-fried grubs and wee beasties. We just weren't that hungry. We spent a couple of days visiting our friends Bernard and Eed and Keith and I drunk a wee bit too much of the local Rum. Not a good feeling in the morning. ... read more

A while back I did some very exciting things in Bangkok. I wrote about them at the time so they are all in present tense. Sorry to not post them right away but internet is, as usual, a tricky thing in Thailand. Today I went to Wat Prat Gaeo. Which is the royal temple as well as the four parts of the palace. Upon arriving at 8 (my host mom was getting her hair done elsewhere) I was met by a would-be, guide who charged 100 baht for a full history and tour of the whole temple.
