We woke up in the small seaside fishing town of Prachuap Khiri Khan, went down stairs and ordered breakfast and a coffee (the place was supposed to have a good selection of fine coffees and ice cream according to the Lonelyus Planetus). First we got some toast and jam and a nice cup of strong coffee. Mmmm... Caffeine! Then a few minutes later, the main event arrived. It was a small plate (like you might have a sandwich on) with a frazzled fried egg, a wrinkled pink chipolata sized frankfurter and a piece of pig meat - neither bacon nor ham. It was actually quite tasty with a bit of sweet chilli sauce, but not the most satisfying breakfast on record. Would be perfect for a small toddler though. We then ventured out in to the ... read more

After leaving crazy Bangkok on a local bus, which turned out to be quite comfortable and half empty (phew), we headed south to Prachuap Khiri Khan ("PKK"). PKK is very laid back and just what we needed after 4 nights in Bangkok. Not many travellers visit this place which is a shame and it is a really nice place. After arriving, we headed towards a hotel and that is when I had to face one of my biggest fears ....... the dreaded squat toilet!!!! I have also found that the beds over here are really hard - felt like concrete! All this didn't worry Chad as he was very excited when we turned on the tv and he was able to watch an Australian tv channel showing the Sunday footy show so he got a fix ... read more

Day 268, 23rd February Hua Hin After a short sleep we were up for just after 4am and outside our pre-arranged meeting place, the Hilton, for our 5am departure to Phetburi by bus. We’d cycled through this town a few days before, and the filming was taking place there, in one of the king’s palaces. There were over 100 westerners recruited from different hostel and hotels. We had our breakfast and were told our parts. Stephane ended up as a French professor sitting in a prime position in front of the cameras, and I was a newspaper reporter in an ill-fitting suit. The action took place in an old university lecture room with an old professor giving a talk about an amazing find which was in a covered box on a table. There was an argument ... read more

Well, there I am....back in holland behind the computer, having just finished my first day of wellpaying, mindnumbing work. Thanks to my dad who provides me with limitless acces to internet, I have discovered the wonders of things like YOUTUBE. So now i am listening to my very own playlist, which is ofcourse full of foreign music. TIP: FOR SOME REALLY POPULAR INDONESIAN MUSIC, search for "SAMSON-KENANGAN TERINDAH" , I promise you'll love it. So, yeah, left kanchanaburi by bus and train. Was very surprised to see how dry the landscape looked south of bangkok. Everything looked like it hadn't seen rain in weeks. Arrived in the heat of the day, but the guesthouse was very close to the trainstation luckely, so after dumping my bags, i went for a stroll. Man, i was so happy ... read more

Thanks for all the comments everyone, it is nice to hear from you. As we slowly journey south, we have visited two small towns. Each town has been unique and very exciting. From the train station in Bangkok we first visited Hua Hin, a town catering mostly to older travellers. We rented motorbikes and explored the countryside, which was very fun. The motorbikes were only 200 Baht (rougly 6 canadian) for 24 hours. We winded through the outskirts of the town, weaving through mountains and enjoying the scenery. We actually got a little offroading in! The guesthouse we stayed at was expensive and we got eaten alive by bugs! We decided to leave Hua Hin and stay at the next town of interest, Prachuap Khari Khan (we can't pronounce it either). We were only going to ... read more

Our train arrived in Prachuap Khiri Khan at 4 am. To our delight the train station had benches & lights rather then just a bench on the side of a lonely rail road track! We asked the guard about a "toilet" & he took us to one nearby, as he lead the way over he was singing "toiiiiiiileeeeetetete...toilet, toilet, toooooiiiileeeet"... so that was kind of interesting. Megan tried to catch a wink but I think we both were still a little startled about the events of the last hour. We waited until sunrise & then began to hike around in search of a good place to stay. We bought some fruit (mangostein & some little yellow ball things) & some really fatty donut things. We checked into our hotel Yatichai at 8 am hot & ... read more

Thanks for all the messages people, glad to hear your all ok. We were supposed to get up early today but once again we were in bed till 10 ish. Iv'e been hear a week and im still not on the right sleep pattern! We walked up to hillside to look at the temple which i thought as 8000 steps high. It turned out to only be about 1,000 but we couldn't believe how many monkeys were there. Ryan bought a bunch of bananas for 20 baht only to be attacked by about 50 chimps who stole the whole lot- VERY funny! We were dissapointed when we reached the summit to find the gates closed to the temple. It must have been there mid day pray time. We got a few picturs of the monkeys and ... read more

We have spent the last few days in Bangkok exploring the city and we are starting to like the city now we know where to go. We went to O'Reillys Irish bar last night which is on Silom road. It was great to taste that Guiness again and met a few other backpackers from Australia. Anyway we had a good night but had to be up at 5:00 this morning for our train to Prachaup Khiri Khan. We are climbing 8,000 steps tomorrow to reach a Buddah temple at the top of a mountain and hopefully get a chance to snorkle around the bay as the sea looks real clear. Heard there is a heat wave back at home, hope you make the most of it, il get back to you all next week... read more

So having left the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, and the bizarre place of Hua Hin, where as we may have emailed to you, there were lots of men out to pick Thai women. It was all a little strange so we left pretty swiftly, and moved down the coast to khiri khan. we have been here a couple of days now, and it is very picturesque and a lot quieter than our previous stops. our journey down here though was a little traumatic. It was round a quarter to noon when we left the Lord Nelson, (that was the hole we stayed in in Hua Hin), and we ventured forth to the bus station, we got lost and had to get an overpriced tuk tuk. A kind gentlemen at the bus station helped us to ... read more
