Edit Blog Post
Sorry for writing this blog a little late, but I've been slightly busy the last few days. So after a month of May spent in Krabi, Bangkok, Congo and Shanghai, he we are for another long week-end of school holidays. First week of June, just before exams time, the kids have their last long week-end before the school end. Imagine, another year has gone back....we are back to Bangkok for now a year and half...and Tiffany has moved with us for four years as of this week-end. I know, they are growing fast!
This time we made it to Hua Hin for two nights at the Sheraton Hua Hin and one night at the Sheraton Pranburi, the little place in the middle of nowhere just South of Hua Hin. I rented a car and we left on Sunday morning. Suddenly on the other side of the road, the road goes empty. Yes, we witness the King of Thailand going back to Bangkok for a medical check-up. The King lives most of the year in Hua Hin, maybe one of the reason why Hua Hin is so special in the tourism world of Thailand, meaning the place is not
only clean, but you don't see here any part of the seedy things you can witness in other places in Thailand. The road had police every 100-200 meters....than came, one police car, two police car....5 police cars, and the huge convoy. I had heard about this before, but never had the chance to witness it. We were lucky to be in the opposite direction, so no big traffic jam for us. The convoy was massive. I was happy to read in the press the next morning that the King medical check-up was a rather positive one. Think about this, the King is today 87 years old, and one of the longest standing King in the world....and yes, a very loved and important figure for Thailand and the people of Thailand.
We made it for a very first relax day at the Hua Hin Sheraton...this place has seen the kids growing over the years...and we always love to spend some time in the nice swimming pool. On Monday, a public holiday, we went to try the new waterpark in Hua Hin. Wow, that place is fun...and when you pack some of the rides to the maximum weight limit,
it can too be rather scary. Ask Tiffany what she thought about some of those rafts...but she did all of them! I left to Leslie the pleasure to experience the two most scary slides...on his own...ah...teenagers!
The water park is only 1000b per person...which for the amount of fun we had, was pretty nice. The place is seriously well run. I only wish we had such place closer to home. Yes, you read this, we do not have any amazing waterpark in Bangkok...go figure out! Just make sure you don't forget your sun screen....we went through a lot of it that day!
Second day, it was time for me to play one more time golf at Seapines. This golf course is built and own by the army. It is the newest course around Hua Hin, and one of the best deal too, specially as we have now reach the lower season, aka the rainy season. After golf, we picked up the kids, and headed to our usual pizza place in Hua Hin before reaching the Sheraton Pranburi. Second visit for us. Private swimming pool villa one more time. The place has no beach, so
it will never be a popular places for Europeans coming on a 7 days holiday. But we don't care, nobody is coming to Hua Hin for the beach...and a private villa with private swimming pool is way better than a lower than average beach. Would not spend 5-7 days here, but a 24 hours stop is always fun. We left the car...and even went for lunch the next day by bicycle.
It was already time to make it back to home. First ever time I'm driving back home in the middle of the week without any traffic....what a dream! I love to go down to Hua Hin...but the ride back on a Sunday night is just pure nightmare...it can take 2 hours to do the first 200km...and 2 more hours just to drive the last 20km back to home. And driving, is still the most efficient way to reach Hua Hin!
This week-end was few days ago already...two more weeks and we are at the end of the school year...ready for 2 months on the road...next blog is a wet one! The next blog is one that I have waited for a very long
while....just lets hope the weather will be on our side! Coming soon...shark time!
PS You may wonder why I have a pic with a magazine and polar bears in this entry! Well, it's my first published work in a travel magazine...in Africa. I have no pretention on the quality of my published work, but it is a fun experience, that I will try to perform every 3 months. Next magazine is out in a few weeks time...a cool experience!
